They're funny, but they are very naughty!
For color in my shade garden I grow spiderwort (2 different color varieties), Stella D'Oro lilies (they're done blooming already, but they gave me the most blooms ever this year in the 3 years I've had them!), Jacob's Ladder, Great Blue Lobelia, Hellebore, and some pretty pathetic Columbines. Oh, and the Vinca flowers are nice in spring. I planted my first Astilbe this year, and it's hanging in. I will have to try more next year. I've tried planting bleeding heart, but it was not a happy camper in my garden. Shade and clay... our SEOhio blessings, huh?Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15791185232391134319noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3702367777217796558.post-9549970453721558002009-06-25T21:42:25.352-04:002009-06-25T21:42:25.352-04:00Hi Lona, sorry I've been so quiet. I don't have enough shade to worry about adding color to it! I always grow impatiens in my small shady patch, but they aren't doing very well this year. I may have told those Japanese beetles that they will not win, but I don't think they are listening. I'm drowning them by the ton, I swear!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3702367777217796558.post-32150647985202577382009-06-25T16:38:13.889-04:002009-06-25T16:38:13.889-04:00For the shade I got bleeding hearts, hostas, Polyg...For the shade I got bleeding hearts, hostas, Polygonatum multiflorum X odoratum (don`t know the english name) and clematis. Is that typical? I was thinking I should cut back the old flowers to encourage the new growth, although you say you leave yours. Does it make any difference?

Is that last photo tiarella? We also planted that for the first time, and it's doing terribly. The brunnera, heuchera, and hellebores in the same bed seem fine, so I don't know what the tiarella is missing. Anyway, glad to see someone's is doing well!Sabrinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05856102663636992798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3702367777217796558.post-69170860129159879692009-06-23T21:39:52.422-04:002009-06-23T21:39:52.422-04:00Don't forget the fern leaf bleeding hearts.
