Finding Green in the Winter

 

I managed to get a walk in last week at one of the parks that make up our Hocking Hills Parks system that we live in the middle of. Sine the weather was still fair and the sun was shining for once I went walking up into Conkles Hollow to see what had changed since my last visit. Aside from the hush that had fallen over the parks which I mentioned in the previous posting there were still some things that were trying to hang on before the snows this winter come to take them down. 

The leaves on this little tree were still hanging on long after all the leaves were fallen.

There were still some berries hanging onto the green briars that the birds had not gotten to yet.

Some plants still stood like sentinels with their lovely seed heads intact.

They added texture to the grays that were all around.

 
On up into the hollow old trees were alive with growth from the wet summer we had.

Growing on old fallen trees….

 

and even some still standing.

There could still be green to be found along the trail from the thousands of woodland ferns growing on cliffs, tree trunks and…

on the hillsides. The snows well soon flatten them down and cover them until Spring.

It was  a record year for moss and algae growth in the hollow.
So many of the trees and rocks were covered with it so green was the color father up in the hollow.
