Oh No! I Am So Sad !

My heart is heavy this morning and there has been a tragedy in my small Gardening World.

PottingBench_2009
Remember the beautiful (well maybe only in the eyes of the builder) Garden Bench I built from a door in 2009?

PottingBench_Destoyed

This is what is left of my beauty this morning!!!
All that hard work and planning was destroyed by high winds last night.
Even with all of the weight I had on it the wind still took it sailing  into the back yard and there was not one piece left whole remaining of her.
Well unless the brackets count.

pottingbenchfront
Her windows were broken and even the shutters were destroyed.
She is no more… (heavy sigh)

pottingbenchback
Poor girl. Maybe I should have used more screws and brackets when I built her. Maybe it was the builder in the first place. LOL!
I am trying to make light of this but in reality I was bummed out when my son and I went out to pick up the scattered pieces.
Oh well, time to look for another door. LOL!

Happy {Sob!} Gardening,
Lona

Sorry you had that loss Lona. Stuff like that can be depressing. It was really a sweet piece. Now, you can make another one keeping strong winds in mind. Maybe it was just too light and the whole thing went sailing.

I'll shed some tears with you on this one. I'm sorry.

Oh and I bet you felt like crying - I would. All that hard work but it's not just the work - it is something that you were proud of in the gardens. I'm sorry. I bet you build another one and it will be better than the other one.

I am having a problem leaving comments on some blogs. Have you experienced this. It's been going on all week. I've tried to comment on Connie's Far Side of Fifty everyday. Haven't yet today but am going there now to try.

So sorry for your loss. We would have had some mishaps but I went out in the rain dragging things into the garage. I learned my lesson last summer when I was picking up bits and pieces for one of those wild storms we had then. FreeCycle.org in your area is a good place to look for replacement parts. Good luck.

What a shame! That wind has been bad here for the last few days and lots of limbs down.

I thank you for info on comments, I think I did it right.

I am sorry you lost your bench but I am glad it gave you so much joy for the time it was in your life. Just build a bigger better one as you are now an experienced builder of benches. Blessings on your day. Stella

Oh, how upsetting! I hate when the winds destroy things. What a sad discovery.

Oh Lona I am sorry your garden bench was smashed. I could hear the howling winds last night and I was glad I was tucked into my warm bed. I hope that you will build another. V

Sorry to hear that. Maybe you can take the pieces and make something entirely new? The wind was ferocious the other night, wasn't it??~Patti

The wind can really cause a lot of damage. I was talking to the lady who raises chicken on the farm up the road. We had a wind storm in July that picked up her coops and tossed them around the property.

Sorry Lona. The wind can be a vicious thing sometimes. I hope the replacement will be even better.

Oh how sad! That was such a cute bench, too. I hope you can build a new and improved one!

That's horribly sad...what a shame. I hope you are able to find something comparable next year :-(

Oh that is sad! So lovely. Could something small be made from the scraps? It would be nice if a small part of her could live on..:)

ugh where did my comment go?
Sorry about your loss Lona ~ it was a wonderful (and functional) piece. Winds can be so destructive ~ they make me nervous.
Your 'Firecracker' Amaryllis is gorgeous ~ I love the two tone red ~ the color is very rich.
Also you are so on the ball with your seeds. I haven't even ordered yet ~ if I had, I would want to start them and they'd get all leggy on me since I don't have a good light set up. Looks like you made some good selections. Stay safe!

So sorry your bench got broken by the wind.Come on Girl you know what you have to do. Roll up those sleeves, get those tools out. recycle re-use, replace that sob with a smile. I know you can do it. :0)

The only good thing about wind, in my opinion, is that it scatters seeds (and apparently benches).

What a shame to lose such a cool piece - hurts more when it's something you've crafted yourself. Only upside is it gave you something to blog about. OK - I know, that's no consolation, sorry. Perhaps you can salvage a piece or two for the new and improved bench. That way. . . all is not lost.

That is sad! I think we become more attached to something we build ourselves...we put all that work into it.

OH, NO!!! I am particularly sad for you because I just yesterday built a potting bench for my garden, and I would be crushed if it were ruined in a storm! This baby ain't goin' nowhere, though. It is heavy cedar posts and it is attached with 3-inch screws. Your bench was just the cutest!!! Very creative. It will be easy to do another one since you have these pictures to look back on. Maybe find a lovely large container filled with soil and plants to set on the bottom shelf for weight.

After reading today's post I had to go back and read this. Well, I guess if life gives you wood - make bird houses. Have fun. Spring in only 60 or so days - be there.

Oh that is sad! It really was pretty and I can see why you're disappointed. Hopefully you can find parts to make a new one.

I remember when you first posted about your little beauty. I know you'll miss your garden bench. Will you perhaps build another?

Oh Lona !!! I am sorry because that bench was beautiful ! .. we have had incredible winds .. last night in the middle of snow squalls it was thundering and lightening .. talk about creepy !
The only reason my arbours sty upright is because the vines anchor them down .. phew ! I would love a bench like yours .. maybe your new one will be even better !!

I had to come see what had happened. That was a beauty! I'm sorry the wind destroyed it like that. I'd be sad, too.
