November Comes and Goes

Hope Everyone had a Good Thanksgiving.

Today is black Friday and this is one person who
is not going near the cities. Some of the stores
were opening at 4 a.m. this morning. It may be
a good opportunity for those who need to or
enjoy going out shopping that early, or who may
have to just have that one bargain that is on their
shopping list. Some enjoy the experience, I am just
not one of them. After working years in retail I
really do not need to relive the experiences, they
are deeply ingrained upon my memory.
Good luck to all of you brave souls, shoppers and
employees.

It is hard to believe that the month of November is
almost at an end and December is just a few days
away. Where did the month go?
My Grandma use to say that "the older you get
the faster the days fly by" and as a younger girl
I would laugh and shake my head thinking that it
was a silly thing to say, time is time.
But as the years passed and I become the older
member of the family what she said has become
true and as the older I get
"the faster the days seem to fly by".

The Thanksgiving cacti have bloomed, the gardens
put to bed and our mail boxes are being crammed
with those great plant and seed catalogs with the
titles "New for 2009" to which we plant-o-holic's
cannot resist. After all we can always find room for
one, or two, or three, or......
So we prepare to say goodbye to November and
hello to December and Winter.

"November
comes

And November goes
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.

With night coming early
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And the earth sink to rest
Until next spring."

I think you made a wise choice. Somehow I forgot how crazy things could be. Or maybe I never really fully experienced them. Either way I was crazy enough to go to a store this morning. I don't regret it, but I don't think I'll be going again next year!

This month really has gone fast hasn't it? I wonder why it is that we seem to have the need to question what others say. I guess it all makes sense giventime.

I worked retail too - our day of horror is the 26th of December. I think the term boxing day has more to do with elbows than coins for the poor. I'll never forget standing inside looking at the lineup outside (-35C) to buy an artificial Xmas tree and then the rush and grab to get the one they wanted. No, quiet reflection and enjoying the day is vastly superior.

Cinj: I am glad you had a good Sale day.
Do you think when we are young we just think we know more than older folks? ;). I know now than older means experience.

Barbara: Oh, I remember December 26, the day after Christmas and all of the returns.Usually nothing left to exchange the products for. It was usually worse than Black Friday. And the patience was even less.Everyone keep your receipts!! Do not miss it at all. ;)

The cactus looks especially happy today. My crazy family..minus me...got up at 4am to go shopping. Then after they feasted on turkey, promptly fell asleep.

Holiday shopping is crazy--can I go out on a limb here and say that I wish we could do away with it altogether and do something a bit more thoughtful and reflective?

Oh well, tis the season, I suppose!

I was a shopaholic at this time when my kids were young, those days are long gone! I wasn't out on Black Friday this year, before you know it, Christmas will be long gone, too. Your cactus is pretty...nice to see some blooms now!

Anna: You are so brave to go out shopping at 4 a.m. Turkey always makes me sleepy anyway but I love it. Yum

Susan: Halloween and Christmas is so commercialized now that it is almost sickening sometimes.Thanksgiving hardly gets a mention with Halloween and Christmas displays coming out at the same time. The meanings of Thanksgiving and Christmas gets lost.

Spookydragonfly: My kids are all adults now and it does make a difference and I have no grandchildren to spoil or I might be tempted to venture out for that one needed toy.
