" My Little Chickadee "

These sweet little, cheery Chickadee's swarm to the bird feeders
all year long.I love to watch them hurrying around. They will grab
some seed and take it off onto the branches to eat.

Breaking open and eating a Sunflower Seed

The black capped heads remind me of a penguins head
around their eyes.

Cool Facts

The Black capped chickadee hides seeds and other
food items for later recovery.
Each item is placed in a different spot and a bird can
remember thousands of hiding place.
The chickadee's simple-sounding calls have been found to
be extremely complex and language like.
They code information on identity and recognition of other
flocks as well as predator alarms and contact calls.
Breeding pairs and non-breeder join up into flocks
outside of the breeding season.
Non-breeders may be members of several flocks, with a
different position in the dominance hierarchy of
each flock.

I didn't know that chickadees hide their seeds. Fascinating. I had noticed that they tend to snatch a seed and then fly off. They are so quick and very hard to photograph. You got some good photos of them!

Such a little cutey! You have some great shots of them, I never knew about them hiding seeds either. I have a Black and White shot that I have used for the last 2 years of Christmas cards featuring a chickadee. They are so cute.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I am feeling so much better than before.
