Renowned Quilter

In October at the Bob Evans Farm Festival an exhibit of
quilts were on display in the barn.
Renowned quilter and host of the exhibit Nina Maxine Green
Groves held quilting demonstrations.
Nina is descended from five generations of Appalachian families
in the hills of West Virginia. She learned to knit, crochet, and quilt
from her mother and grandmother as a small girl.
After raising her children and teaching for 25 years she retired
to Adams County, Ohio.In retirement she found more time to
devote to quilting, which has become more than a hobby.
Groves dedication to quilting was the inspiration behind the Ohio
and National Quilt Trail-a project which places painted replicas
of quilt squares throughout southeastern Ohio. There are now
quilt squares throughout Ohio, recognizing the importance of this
craft to our heritage. The two paint quilt squares on the barn
were commissioned by Bob Evans Farm for farm.

Her quilts have since gained acclaim and are featured
in a year long exhibit in the Homestead Museum at the
Bob Evans Farm.Over fifty of her quilts are on display
on the second floor of the museum.

A frequent lecturer on the traditional piece-work quilts
and the woman who made them, Groves offers a wealth
of information on quilting history.
She also holds demonstrations and teaching quilting.
She particularly enjoys creating quilts which feature
" old patterns" but with a twist.

Those quilts are stunning. Spoke to a quilter & friend yesterday, who's thinking of taking some of my photos and interpretting them for some of her wall hangings. I am in awe of these women - they are just so talented.

Barbara: That would be nice to have your pictures made into hangings. You always have beautiful pictures in you listings.

Jen:We had a wonderful time at the Festival in the Fall. It was very crowded but so many wonderful crafts to see.

I visited with a lady this week who had a house full of quilts like I had never seen. I thought of you. She had many traditional ones...but you should have seen her mixed medium pieces. She had copper cloth which I had never seen.

She melted onion bags on some fabric and it was stunning.

Oh I wish I could have gone to that quilt show. And I love the painted quilts on the barn. It makes me want to put one on my house.

Garden Girl: I have never saw copper cloth either. I imagine it was so pretty. Have no talent or patience for quilting, my sewing is terrible :)

Susan: Yes,I know you can do it! You must put a quilt on your house. You could make a smaller one and frame it out and hang it.Make out out of different kinds of wood. You are so talented with wood that it would be simple for you.
