My First Pansies

These are the first Pansies I have ever purchased.
They were another one of those plants that just found their
way into my shopping cart.
They were just to bright and cheery looking and they were
blue so what was not to love.

They have done so well in my window boxes through the
recent freezing winds and snow showers.
I think because they look so delicate it was hard to believe
that they could stand up to cold temperatures.
After seeing how hardy they can be I will definitely try
them again for Spring color in my flower boxes and containers.

I love pansies and they are very easy to grow. They cannot get through our hot summers but are real nice for early spring. Happy Easter.

Hi...They are really delightful with their sweet flower faces. I like the blues best, too. Have you tried the little violas? They are precious and will cross and seed if happy in your garden! I'm hoping they love C&L! gail

Beautiful Pansy, Lona! I love pansies, they always brighten my day with their happy faces :). I grow them every year- but they can be a pain to start!

Pansies were the first plant I ever planted--when I was twelve, and we moved out of a NYC apartment to a house in Toronto. I've always loved them--and they're great in cold. They'll emerge from the snow already in bloom.

Lona, just like us girls - those pretty spring pansies are a lot tougher than they look! Very pretty pictures. B.

Lona~~ Don't you just love their little faces? Did this variety have a fragrance? I love walking into a nursery and catching their lovely fragrance. I usually go for the smaller violas. I like that they re-seed and germinate in various locales among the borders. Here, you can buy them in the fall and keep them all winter. Maybe this fall they'll be in your stores too.

I tried to grow viola's from seed but they did not grow for me. The pansies I have tried to start from seed and only a few are making it so far. I am having no luck with my seedlings this year. I will have to try to get some this fall to come up next spring then maybe they will reseed.
These pansies have no fragrance.I did not know they had any. Good to know.

Lona, yes, they're delicate but tough! I planted 2 flats of them last November and they've all come back..I love how each face is a little different but all beautiful!

Pansies are one of the few annuals I like enough to bother with the replanting. I saw a lovely combination in a planter recently, with Mexican Feather Grass in the middle and maroon pansies with golden eyes in front. I liked it enough that I added it to a container planting in my last design, with the addition lf a red leafed Phormium 'Jester' to bring together an all red/buff/yellow combo.

Hi Lona- I love pansies but last year was my first year with them. They performed all season. I hope they will come back this year. Some folks say they will, others say Idaho winters kill them. We will see.

Pansies are a great flower for the early spring pots and blue is one of my favorites to fill in around the bright warm daffs and tulips.

I love this variety, in fact it is my absolute favorite. I am trying to remember it's name. Something Bloomsbury......Beaconsfield?
Anyways love it. Great shots!

Beautiful colours - I love the way the mauve and purple goes from pale and delicate to deep black velvety!

Those are beautiful. When I buy them I get them in the fall here and in the spring they are beautiful but they can't take the heat of summer here. Helen

Hi Lona,
These pictures are so pretty. what a charming little flower. They don't last here very well...so I put them in pots.

Pansies are my favorite fragrance in the garden, and you chose my favorite color combination, too! I'm sure you'll love growing them.

My love affair with pansies is relatively new also, but now I don't know how I ever did without them. I have a potful on my front porch, and some hanging from the front door hook, and now some planted around my potted Alberta spruce. It's such a quick fix of color when you think that summer annuals will never flourish again. They'll peter out on you when it gets hot, just take them out and replace them with hot weather annuals. Till next year anyway!

I like the two toned light and dark blue colour of those pansies. They make great spring planters.
