Wonderful Weekend

Hope all of you ladies had a wonderful Mothers Day.
It was a wonderful weekend for us in Sugar Creek and
Walnut Creek Ohio in Amish country.
Friday was a beautiful day. Just right for walking around
all of the craft shops and seeing the sights. It only sprinkled
on us once. Saturday was also beautiful and sunny but the
wind was horrible.
I did not get many pictures because it was mostly antique,
flea market and craft shops where we spent most of our time.
Everyone there had wonderful gardens growing in about every
yard. There were wonderful yards full of lilacs and tulips blooming
since they are cooler and farther north than where I live in Ohio.
Mine have finished blooming now.

There was so much traffic I barely got this picture of the horse and
Buggy.

I did see this beautiful bright orange, I think it was an Azeala bush
in someones yard that I just had to take a picture.
I had never saw
one this color before. I am not fond of oranges in flowers but these were
very pretty.

While checking the flowerbeds this morning and spraying some
of the millions of weeds around the house that have sprang up
with all of the rain,
I spotted this wild Jack In The Pulpit 'Arisaema triphyllum'
near the woodland flower bed. It is the first I have seen near
the house and I was tickled to spot it.
Now I am debating on whether to dig it up and move it into
the woodland bed so someone doesn't forget it
(I am not mentioning any names)
and weed whack it off. Have any of you moved any before?

Happy Gardening everyone!

Lona, What a find! Jack in the Pulpit! Nice :). We have been having horrible wind here too. It's either torrential downpours, or sunny and very windy! Thanks for stopping by today. So tell me, when is the best time to catch Japanese Beetles committing their crimes on your Rose of Sharon?

Sounds like you had a really nice time. Neat picture or the horse and buggy!
I've never grown jack in the pulpit, but I know what you mean about having to look out for your plants. Good luck with the move, it's very pretty.

Glad you had a lovely weekend! Love the orange azalea - those colours usually have gorgeous fragrance too.

Don't know anything about moving Jack in the Pulpit - the photos are great!

I did have a great Mother's Day.

I have an Amish community close to where I live and each summer I have every intention of visiting.

Great picture of the horse and carriage

Even though we are only a couple of counties apart, definitely a zone difference! I see your phlox are in full bloom...all of your blooms are so pretty, Lona. After going back on a few of your posts, I can see you had as rainy a Spring as us. Hopefully my dragonflies are a hungry bunch this year....mosquitoes! Great shot of the Jack in the Pulpit, too.

Sound like my kind of weekend! I love to do things like that, I hardly ever buy anything, but love to look. We have an Amish area near us as well. They have a great auction every week. I too loved the orange blooms, but not really an "orange" person...lol. I just hate the idea of something that only blooms once taking up so much space. Have a great day....Brooke

Ah, now I see what you mean about your Jack in the Pulpit! Very nice. I like how yours flips up at the tip. It almost looks like there's a snail or something climbing around on that flipped up tip!

When I found mine, I immediately thought about how it might grow elsewhere in my woods. After doing some research online, I found the following: "The delightfully unusual flowers of our native wild Arisaema triphyllum, Jack-in-the-Pulpit plants bloom in April, May, June, and July in moist shade along rocky slopes in woods, ravines, and along bluffs. In the flower garden it is best grown in humusy, medium to wet, well-drained soil in part shade to full shade. Jack in the pulpit does best in constantly moist soil rich in organic matter and does poorly in heavy clay soils. This native wildflower is somewhat uncommon and should be left alone in the wild. "

Since mine are growing in an area that doesn't get mowed or weed wacked, I think I'll just leave mine be. If you decide to transplant yours I'll be interested to hear how it goes!

Sounds like a nice trip. It's been a while since we were up in that area. Love the pictures of the Jack-in-the-Pulpit. Hope you get along with moving it.

Sounds like you had a great weekend up in Amish country. Did you buy anything good? I love those orange flowers, and I'm pretty sure they are azaleas. The tag to my mandevilla says to overwinter it as a houseplant, so that's my plan. I just got my little gnome recently, so he didn't have a chance to watch over my herbs. They had some cute small ones at Joann Etc, do you have one near?
