She's A Little Early

Hope everyone had a safe Halloween.
I only had seven little visitors out here in
the hills. They usually opt to go into the
towns where they can really haul in the
treats.
I tried to 'Trick or Treat' for flowers instead
of candy but that did not work out at all.

We had a really hard frost this morning
and the ground was white but at least we
are not getting the snows that are piling up
all ready in Colorado.
Just a few plants are still left outside that
seem to keep going that are under the eaves
or near the house but it looks a sad sight now.
The leaves were raked again and the tomato
plants were pulled up and tossed on the pile.

The only thing that is blooming up a storm
now is the Cactus. It usually blooms around
Thanksgiving but it is a little early this year.

Joseph at Greensparrow Gardens
has the funniest posting up now
on an 'Illustrated Guide to Gardener's Quantities'.

The two new Streptocarpus plants arrived last
week and I will be posting them latter.
Other than that the only thing that is in the
beds at the woods that is standing are.....

....the plant markers.

Happy Gardening Everyone!

Your cactus is certainly early for Christmas, or even Thanksgiving, mine has teeny buds not big as a baby's first tooth.

At least she showed up...mine is a little tiny struggling piece barely sticking out to the soil.

He is totally wrong! Variegated African violet leaves absolutely propagate from leaves. I can post pictures on my blog as proof :)
He may be confusing the term Chimera (blooms with pin wheel stripes) that have to be propagated by sucker or bloomstalk.

You had more trick or treaters than we had. zero.
I did not know that about the variegated violets either. BUmmer.

What a pretty cactus. Wouldn't it be great to trick or treat for plants?!

I love that Christmas cactus. Mine have not yet started to bloom, but it isn't as cool here as it is there, I don't think.

What is under those markers? I have not started to plant any bulbs yet. The ground here is not cool enough yet, and probably won't be until after Thanksgiving.

Hi Lona~~ Nice cactus blossoms. This makes enduring winter a little easier, doesn't it?

Our Christmas cactus is about a week behind yours. Everything was green in Florida but was to hot for my tastes but really enjoyed the sunshine and ocean. Glad to be back and visiting all my friends

I'm here to own up: Yep, I WAS totally wrong about the african violet leaves. SORRY! Many plant leaf variegation is chimeral, so I assumed african violets were as well. Big mistake! Thank you so much for correcting me, Laurie

It's nice to see your Christmas cactus blooming. Reminds me I really need to get one of those! We had way less trick or treaters than usual, as well. My kids are getting older now, so I think the younger kids tend to go to homes where they know the people. Plus, our street is a bit isolated. My kids always go elsewhere since we're the only ones in our immediate area that decorates the house!

Hi,
My two have just started to open...watch for a picture soon. The label said...holiday cactus...I've had them bloom for many of the holidays. Yours is really pretty.

Pretty flowers. Mine is WAY early. She is already covered in buds so I guess my Christmas cactus with be a Thanksgiving cactus this year. :)

:) I was just afraid the variegated AV leaves were going to get thrown away as a lost cause.

To be truthful, some plantlets do give you fits and won't have enough green as babies; some growers might give up on those or try changing the light placement. Natural light from a window fixed one of mine that didn't have enough green.
