Trains In The Garden

This is what every child would love to have to play
with out in the garden and maybe a few of the big
boys too.
I remember my Dad getting me a train set
one year for Christmas when I was small. I was a
tomboy but maybe Dad wanted to play with trains too.

This was a train display at the Franklin Park Conservatory.
The buildings and log tunnels were made so beautifully.

Lit up under some palm trees with ferns planted around
It was a fun display to watch.
Dad would have really liked this one.

Bark slabs and tree trunks made up the wall behind.
One little caboose  was running around all by its self.
We could not decide whether it was running away from the
bigger engine behind it or trying to catch up

On top of it all set a castle.
Do little boys and girls know anything about knights
and lady’s anymore I wonder?
Or do they think they were only in cartoons and movies?

I   hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
It looks like we are headed into a great week
here with highs into the 70’s and even an 80 degrees
for Easter Sunday. So I know what many gardeners
will be doing here in the hills of Ohio this week.
Time to get out and make that flower bed bigger and
start a new one for all of those flowers growing from
seeds indoors. Time to put out a few of the
started perennials to get them acclimated to being outside.
Then I will have more room to start some more
annuals. LOL!

Everyone Have A Good Week of Gardening !

I can only justify a train if it will be of the motion-activated cat-chasing variety. Or remote control. I would take great pleasure in startling the dickens out of stray cats in my yard. That would be worth any price.

The trains are great in a garden. We have a local man who has made it a lifetime hobby to work the trains throughout his garden.

Lona ~ I think trains in gardens bring out the kid in each of us. There is something soothing and fascinating in watching them.

Have a lovely pre-Easter week.

Wow that castle looks very similar to Neuschwanstein....King Ludwig's castle in Bavaria.

Love the castle- how imaginative.
And spring fever has hit here in Southern Ontario - warmer temperatures this week here too. Can't wait to get out and really get my hands dirty.

Hi Lona,
We're having 70s this week, and could even see a couple 80 degree days before a cold front is supposed to come through, giving us cooler temps for the weekend.

Have fun out there!

I would even like that in my garden.
So happy for the sun and highs this week maybe it will dry out my flower beds.

All that beautiful warm weather coming, and I work every day! And we'll be driving up to Detroit for the day on Easter. Darn! I'm off tomorrow, but it won't really be warm yet. Think I'll try the FPC again, only this time with my camera in tow. LOL

What a unique landscaping idea! Those toy trains will definitely attract kids to take a closer look.

This is very interesting to me. My father had a train set that he rarely used when I was a kid; then my son had one that he enjoyed a lot. But the most trainlike garden I know of is a nursery operator whose husband collects all kinds of train memorabilia. And I mean ALL kinds. He has two full size train cars (a passenger car and a caboose, if I remember right) in the garden. It's wonderful and whimsical and somehow works.
Weather here has been cold and now although it's gotten milder, it's very, very windy. Unsettled fullmoon weather. Hopefully it gentles down soon.

The train looks amazing and beautiful. Anyone young at heart would really enjoy putting like these in their gardens. My nephew loves Thomas the tank engine. :)I always like lots of arts and crafts placed in the garden even just for entertainment or display, just like these rain barrels I found.

That's a strange idea; maybe they could get the train to carry around manure, and drop it at opportune moments to feed the plants!

Aren't those trains cute?! It would be fun to have something like that set up.
Your weather is now better than ours :) Cold and rainy here, We won't see 80 for a long time. Enjoy your nice weather!!

I really enjoy things like trains in the garden. We have several gardeners in this area that have them in their private gardens. Many show them off during garden tours. Haven't seen any castles here.

My husband ignors me as I blog but I will show him this one as he has trains in the basement!

I, too, love seeing trains in garden-settings, Lona;-) My dad had a train set that was up only at Christmas but I always think of it whenever I see one. I've been to several exhibits over the years and they're always quaint, and interesting, and keep my attention as I wait for the trains to go through tunnels and around mountainsides. Lots of fun! Enjoy your gardening in the wonderful weather you are having!!

Lona, can be believe the weather we're going to have? Those trains are a delight in the garden - I had an uncle who was a model train nut - he had a little village & train set that took three "engineers" to run - even had the hats. I think I'll just stick to flowers for now. Thanks for the visit to Franklin.

I'm obsessed with (real) old fashioned trains and my garden, so seeing something like this would make my day. Thanks for the photos!
