Rose Parade

Hello Everyone. I hope everyone had a wonderful
long weekend.
So many of my older roses are now in bloom.
I had to get some pictures of them before the rains
and thunderstorms knocked come of their  blooms
and petals off.

CrimsonBouquet_Rose_May24

Crimson Bouquet as most of my blogger buddies
know is my favorite rose.
It is such a hardy rose and the fragrance of this rose
is so wonderful. I always dry some of the last of the fall
blooms to put in a vase to add fragrance to a
room. The shape of the blooms is another reason I
adore this rose and it holds its blooms over a long
period of time.

DoubleDelight_Bud

Double Delight Rose

DoubleDelight_Rose

Double Delight has blooms of cream and pink edged tones
when it first opens its buds.
As the blooms mature they get this darker pink
tinge to them which I am not too thrilled with but it
is a beautiful rose when it first opens and has been
very hardy for me here in zone 5.
I get a mild fragrance from it but others who are  growing
it have stated it has a  strong fragrance.

Rose_LSimplicity

Lavender Simplicity is newer and since I have moved
it so many times it really hasn’t had a chance to get
established into one spot and just grow. Poor thing.
I like its little lavender blooms but so far I am
not thrilled with its spindly branches. It does not have
a lot of thorns though.
All of my roses could benefit from some compost or
an emulsion fertilizer.
I tried leaving bananas around them but something
always eats the bananas. LOL! So that little rose tip
doesn’t work here in the country.

Rose_Scentimental

Scentimental Rose looks similar to another red
and white rose that is out there. Called Scentimental
for its fragrance but which is mild if any.
The blooms colors are all different in their color patterns.
It does not hold its blooms very long and the petals are
easily knocked off but it is such a pretty rose.

Rose_NewDawn2_May26

New Dawn a climbing rose has  the shape of  blooms
I love.  It is a very light pink rose that blooms only once
in a large flush. I have had a few blooms in early fall but
that has been the exception here and not the rule.
It is another hardy rose and  it is full of  very sharp thorns.
I have delegated this bush to the garden shed out of  the
way of mowing. As fellow blogger Tammy has stated it likes
to reach out and grab you and not let go.

Rose_EbbTide_Evening

Ebb Tide blooms dark red in my soil and is not the
dusky purple it is sold for.
It has tried to take over my bed beside the garage.
I am slowly getting a real hate for this rose.
It mildews like crazy and does not shed its blooms
or self clean.
So  the blooms start turning an ugly brown like those
in the picture above.

Roses2_May24

Ebb Tide Roses

Also the red rose on the trellis was once an Irish Gold yellow
rose but now looks an awful lot like the Ebb Tide above it.

Irish_Gold_Rose-1

Irish Gold

Also you will see below it in the next picture  there
are two other red rose bushes.
One was a Lasting Love rose but now it looks an awful lot
like this Ebb Tide too.
Now I am not a rose expert and I am told they will not
cross but something is very wrong here.
The two smaller ones below have now been dug up and
gotten rid of and the small once yellow one on the trellis has
its days numbered.

Rainbow_Knockout_May20

Rainbow Knockout rose.

New Blaze Rose is a climber and another rose that
is going to have to go. It mildews easily but not as bad
as Ebb Tide and it only blooms once in one flush in the
late spring. It will be replaced with a climber that
repeats blooms.
If any of your have any good climbing
rose ideas for zone 5 that repeats  I would welcome them.
The clematis on the other side
of the arch clashes  a little with it. They both help in shading
and hiding a window air conditioner.

The newest roses added this year to the rose bed are
not blooming yet but Iceberg has buds and will soon
be putting on its first blooms.

Happy Gardening Everyone !!

Until Next Time,
Lona

Your roses are absolutely beautiful. Call me stupid but I have to ask why your yellow rose is now red. I have one that was mauve and turned to red but someone told me that was because the deer ate it all the time and it reverted back to something. We aren't really able to grow them here because of the deer - it's their favorite.
Lona, I have to apologize to you for not doing the post on the questions when you picked me to do that. Right after was when the broad was stealing my blog and I did a post on that and then we got a couple of days I was able to finally get outside and deal with the truckloads of flowers I've been buying and hauling home. I just spaced off until coming inside today and sat down at the computer to rest and visit a bit. As soon as I came to read your post it dawned on me what I hadn't done. I still may get to it if I slow down for a minute and think of the answers. I'm also doing a special card order of about 40 cards I'm making (just finished another one). I just can't seem to do it all anymore - heck I can barely do any of it. LOL

Beautiful roses, Lona. Your New Dawn looks great, you have it in the right place. I had mine on arbors and it attacked everyone as they walk through.

Eileen: They all look so pretty in the catalogs then reality hits you after you have grown them for a while. It does have pretty blooms but a vicious thorn bush LOL!

FlowerLady: It is a pretty little rose and would be a lot prettier maybe if I left the poor thing grow LOL!

Patsy: Thanks Patsy. I love your roses also especially the white Pope rose.

RG: Hey, that is quite alright do not worry about it. That is why I told everyone it was optional.Sounds like you have been so busy.

Gina: LOL! The blooms are pretty but not all vines are created equal. LOL! I was just trying to warn some new gardeners to the pitfall of some of the roses. I wish I had had a warning before I bought them. Thanks for dropping by Gina.

What a beautiful parade of roses. I have trouble growing roses in my sandy soil, they are heavy feeders and want water, both difficult to keep up with in my conditions. I will enjoy yours. Take care.

I love roses. I only have one plant. I just can't grow them. I have tryed many times. Yours are gorgeous. I love all of them.

Well, they look beautiful in the pictures but I know what you mean about problem. I have a blaze that has been limping along. I thought they were easy roses. Mine has it's days numbered too but it doesn't look gorgeous like yours!! New Dawn always takes my breath away!

I can smell them through the computer screen. They are stunning.

Oh my! What a beautiful array of roses. stunning. . Your Scentimental is so pretty. I am definitely going to grow New Dawn. Yours is great. Hope you are having a great summer!

Lona said...

Garden of Threads: I guess that would make it hard to grow roses in your area. That is too bad but you have plants that would not grow here.

Bonnie: That is too bad but I realize it is they are hard to grow in some areas.

Jeannie: I thought new and improved had to be better but I guess not LOL! I have so little space that I hate to waste it on plants that will not produce for me.

Jen: Thanks and thanks so much for dropping by.

RR: They are both beautiful so I do put up with some of the things about them I do not like.

I can enjoy the beauty of all these roses even from looking at your photos. But what about the fragrance Lona? I want to be in your garden!

I ADORE your roses!!! And I can see why the crimson one is your favorite--it's an absolutely perfect shade of red. :)

As far as all of your other roses "turning red," I'm willing to bet that you have actually lost 'Ebb Tide' and all the rest, and what you are seeing is the root stock rose to which they had been grafted.

A red-flowering climbing rose called 'Dr. Huey' is a commonly used root stock on grafted roses, and it looks (to my eye, anyway) exactly like the one you show on your trellis. Google that rose and see if you agree...

Oh my...what gorgeous roses! I'm partial to pink roses, but love them all. Thank you for taking us on a tour of your roses in bloom.

Your roses all look so pretty. I love the red and white one and Double Delight is very pretty too.
I already need to get out and deadhead mine. I love when the roses are blooming.

Hi Lona~~ Lovely roses. My Double Delight is a disease magnet so I keep it sort of hidden and snatch the blooms for the hose. And my Scentimental is nice barely fragrant too. Disappointing.

You've got a knack with roses, for sure!

Balisha said...

I can see why you wanted to get rid of the roses in question. I'm sure you will replace them with something wonderful. Your roses are so pretty. Do you have to spend a lot of time caring for them? How long have you had the knockout? I was wondering if it was winter hardy in zone 5? I know that some of the knockouts are winter hardy here. Balisha

Stunning post Lona! Scentimental is so unique and beautiful, and I just love the shape of your climbing rose, so artistic and pleasing. :)

and that is why I love coming to Blotanical and browsing...here we have rain, winter, misery and yet, somewhere on the other side of the world, in someones garden, roses are blooming and the sun is shining..lovely...

Beautiful roses! Ours, alas, are almost gone!

Lona said...

Martha:It is always a let down when the roses are not blooming. Thanks for dropping by.

Kathyrn: That is what I love about finding all these gardening blogs too. In the dead of winter I cane see flowers blooming in Australia and the Tropical spots all over the world. It sure helps to keep the spirits up in winter. LOL!

Rebecca: Thank you. I like the shape of the roses on the side of the garage but alas they only bloom once.

Balisha: They sure will. I am in zone 5.

Grace: I know. You just want something so pretty to smell divine too. I moved the Double Delight so it may be toast before long LOL!

Catherine: I will have a lot of dead heading to do. A storm last night has my flowers flattened out. Ugh!

T Opdycke: I have a couple of pink ones.I like too many. LOL!

BlackSwampGirl: OMG! That is it. I wondered what was going on. So I have lost the original grafts to 5 of them. UGH! Well I know what not to get to replace them. It had to be that year we had the major ice storm. Thank you so much! Now they are all going. LOL!

YAY!! I love parades!!! :) Yours is especially nice...the Rose Parade! Famous, you know! Your sentimental rose really caught my attention, but they're all beautiful!

Hi, Lona;
I have a special fondness for 'old roses' and yours are quite lovely. I am most definitely feeling the need for a peppermint striped addition to my rose garden!

Wow Wow Wow From someone who doesn't grow roses those are all unbelievable. I think I would get nothing done. I would sit and look at roses all day and then make the rounds and inhale their fragrances. Thank you for the delightful rose tour. Blessings Meg

I love roses too. I have both Scentimental and a mini-clone which are fun together. Iceberg is one of my all-time favorites--that delicate pink tinge on the bud just gives me shivers of delight. The lack of thorns is another plus! And Double Delight's colors vary according to the weather--I love surprises :)

I hope your garden bounces back quickly from the storm!
