This Week In The Garden

It is hot, hot everywhere now and the dog
days of summer have settled over the Hocking Hills
area. Some showers were a welcome sight this morning
for the garden but the air is thick and steamy now.

Today is Friday and time once again to ‘Flaunt Your
Blooms’ with Tootsie          Fertilizer_Friday
and some wonderful gardeners over at Tootsie Time

CrapeMyrtle_Pink

The Crape Myrtle bush is so loaded with blooms this
summer. One limb did collapse after the rain from the
weight.

Crape_Myrtle_Bee

The Bees are certainly enjoying all of the blooms.

CornFlowers

Along the highway in front of the house the blue
Corn Flowers, as Grandma use to call them, are just so
gorgeous and the Queen Anne’s Lace are also joining them.
As you can see the tourists are throwing out their trash
or in this case their water bottles to spoil the beauty.

Gerbera_Yellow_Bee

The yellow Gerbera from Mothers Day is still looking
so bright and pretty.

Ajuga_reptans_BurgundyGlow_Bugleweed

New to the garden is this Ajuga Burgundy Glow.

Coneflower_Bee_SM

The Coneflowers are still welcomed in the garden.

Morning_Sun6_SM

 Lily_PardonMe2

The Pardon Me Lilies along the garage side bed are almost
done blooming for this year.

Eryngium_SapphireBlue_SeaHolly

Eryngium Sapphire Blue Sea Holly is not turning blue.
What’s up with that?

Monarda_White2

The white Monarda Bee Balm is starting to bloom.
Better late than never. I have to save the seeds for this
one to add more white to the garden.

ToteContainer

The old tote container got a new paint job this summer.

Phlox_David_July15

 Plumbago_EscapadeBlue_July15

I am loving the color of this Plumbago Escapade Blue.
This is the first year  that I have grown it and it is going
to become a regular in my garden and containers.
I will have to learn how to get seeds from this one.

Plumbago_RaspberryRipple_Planter

Pentas_ButterflySparkles

Pentas Butterfly Sparkles is also a new one that was
grown from seed.

Dahlia_VictorianaYellow_July15

Also from seeds some of the first blooms of the Dahlia’s
from the Victoriana series.

Dahlia_Victoriana_Yellow
This beautiful burgundy dahlia is another color
from the Victoriana seeds.

Dahlia_Victoriana_Burgundy

Hibiscus_LordBaltimore2

Big and bold Lord Baltimore hibiscus is just
so pretty even with holes in the leaves from
those munching Japanese beetles.

Plox_NoraLeigh_July15

Nora Leigh tall phlox is just starting to open
some blooms.

Zinnia_July15

The Zahara Starlight Rose zinnias just keep getting better.

SunnyKnockout_Rose

Sunny Knockout  roses are so lovely but I wish their
blossoms hung on there a little longer.

Dianthus_AntiqueRose_July15

Dianthus Antique Rose is getting a few more bloom since
I deadheaded the plants.

AmongTheRoses

and the Double Delight rose bush is getting
another flush of blooms.

Lantana_July12
Lantana

So you can see there is a lot of blooming going on
right now around in the garden.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Happy Gardening Everyone !!

Lona, your plants look so good. I am afraid the heat and insects got to my smaller dahlias - they look pretty scruffy.

I love the cape myrtle, but I think I am a zone short to grow this. We are supposed to get into the mid and upper 90's next week UGH!

You are a very brave soul planting ajuga in your garden. Check out my blog post - blooms in the greenhouse garden - to see how much my ajuga has spread. It's okay to spread in that area, but I've dug it up in my gardens at my house. Before I "deleted" it from my house gardens, it escaped into my lawn and I'm still finding splotches of it. The rest of your flowers are beautiful, as always.

Beautiful blooms, Lona! I do not often see familiar flowers on blogs outside of the subtropics, but here today, I am seeing crape myrtles, plumbago, pentas, and lantana. They are all quite lovely and are some of my best wildlife blooms. Love your dahlias also. The yellow is so pretty.

Hi there, thanks so much for visiting my blog. Your flowers are stunning. It's interesting to see that some of the flowers we have, so far away, are the same! I saw your yarrow on the last post and I just love it. We only have the yellow one but now I want some more, having seen yours!

Glad you enjoyed my poppies, they have done well this year.

The pictures just kept getting prettier and prettier! The Crape Myrtle is just soooo pretty. I love the view of the Cornflowers too (how do people think it's okay to just throw garbage out their window? I don't get it.)

Beautiful post Lona! I'm envious of your purple coneflowers, mine vanished over the winter. The burgundy dahlia is stunning and I really like the variegated phlox.

So many gorgeous blooms. Love those Dahlias ... they are really pretty. That drift of blue Corn Flowers is a stunning sight ... shame about the drink bottle! Sounds like you're having one of our tropical summers!

I live in Seattle and our Hydrangeas currently look like the one on the title of your blog. I love the pictures you posted. They were good for my gardening soul. :)

Lona, your flowers are so lovely. The photos all look like postcards! I keep dwelling on that water bottle --that's such a pet peeve of mine.

Hi Lona dear, I KNEW I had read about 'Lord Baltimore' recently and now I remember it was Darla. Yours is absolutely beautiful. I can see why she wanted it. Great minds think alike.

But, you know me, the Crape Myrtle, especially that first photo is just delicious!!!

I hope it cools off for you.

Beautiful flowers for the "dog days" of summer. Hope you are having a great weekend

Your flowers are gorgeous as usual, and I think you had better luck with seeds than you think! I wasted soooo much money on seeds this year1 But you know what I am really enjoying this time of year, just like you? I dearly love the chicory and Queen Ann's Lace growing everywhere about now. It's so wild and beautiful. I'm also trying not to complain about the steamy summer, but sometimes it slips out. LOL Trust me, that's a new Mandevilla, my overwintering did not work on that one.
