Monthly Garden Bouquet - October

I never seem to make bouquets in the house
but since they were calling for frost last night I
went out and cut a few blooms and brought them
in. I want to share them with Noelle from
Ramblings From A Desert Garden” for her
Monthly Garden Bouquet.

 RoseBouquet

It is made up of my Crimson Bouquet Roses,
Iceberg Roses and Cosmos.

The leaves are falling fast now here and
covering the flowerbeds so today will be
filled with raking and mowing up leaves.
We mow them because it is good for this
old clay soil here to have the leaves added
to it.

Since I love bears I had to pull out my
little Halloween bears this month.

The Circleville Pumpkin Show starts today.
It is advertised as the ‘Greatest Free Show
on Earth’. Everything in it  made from pumpkins.
Pumpkin: Fudge, Ice Cream, Brownies, Bread,
Pizza, Chili, Sloppy Joes, Taffy, Waffles, Butter,
and of course Pumpkin Pie.
The local bakery Lindsey’s, makes a 400 pound
pumpkin pie for it every year.
Try this recipe for your next pie!

100 pounds cooked pumpkin
40 pounds sugar
26 gallons milk
15 dozen eggs
4 pounds corn starch
1 1/4 pond pumpkin spice
1 1/4 pond of salt
42 pounds of pie dough
Bake for 4 hours.
Now that’s a pie.
There is also a contest for who can grow the
biggest pumpkin. Last years winner grew one
weighing in at 1,635 pounds. So I am wondering
how big the biggest one will be this year.

Update: This years winning pumpkin weighed
in at 1,662 pounds.

October is flying by and soon those little
goblins will be showing up.

Until Next Time,

I always hate to see the frost put an end to the flower garden. You were smart to bring it inside to enjoy. Those roses are gorgeous.

Lona, that pumpkin festival sounds great, especially the pie. I am not a fan of pumpkin pie but I do make it because my family loves it.

400 lb pie!!! Wow, now that is ginormous! (that's a word, isn't it?) Is there a contest for the largest pie?

Lona....that bouquet is so pretty. Your roses are still so beautiful. What will we in the northern states come up with in the next few months? Some very creative flower arranging I'd say!

Lovely bouquet of the last of your roses. Yes, it is hard to believe next weekend marks the end of October. Did we not just start this month? Take care:)

1,662?! Wow, that's a Great Pumpkin, alright! I loved the recipe for the rather large pie, too, now that would feed a 'few' of my relatives. Your bouquet is so pretty, nothing a florist delivers is as beautiful.

It all sounds like so much fun! I've never seen one of those large pumpkins--someday! Your floral bouquets are beautiful!

You have a lovely touch with your flower arrangements - they are just gorgeous! Thanks for stopping by. I have never been to Hocking Hills, but I hear it is amazing, especially the state park.

Fabulous flowers,Lona. I have to tell you, the giant pumpkins originated here in Windsor, bred by the late great Howard Dill. There's a pumpkin regatta every year around Thanksgiving weekend, when giant pumpkins are raced on Lake Pizziquid...seriously.
