Well that is it I am done and I am refusing
to rake anymore leaves. LOL!
About all of them fell over the weekend and
although I hated the look of that mess of leaves
all over the front yard I refrained from mulching
them up until today.
The yard looks so much better now after the
clean up. Now the rains can come that we need
so much.
It is dark outdoors now and it is 5:47 p.m.
I am dreading these shorter days of fall and winter.
I tell you I need light and sunshine.
I am just like a flower that needs sun, okay, maybe
an old weed then. LOL!
About all that I have blooming outdoors now is
the chrysanthemums and pansies in the window boxes.
Everyone is probably getting their fill of pictures
of mums now but I was saving mine for last.
Even they are not at their best now after two
mornings of freezing temps.
Last year these mums were full of little green
bees but this Fall the only thing that is buzzing
around them are a few brave Bumblebees and those
nasty old Asian Ladybugs.
This copper colored mum just screams Fall.
See folks I have a little bit of yellow in the garden. LOL!
The yellow and copper mums were grown from seeds
last year. They were kept in the basement for the
winter because I was not sure of their hardiness.
I want to try growing some more colors of them
next Spring. Has anyone had luck growing the big
football size chrysanthemums? I am thinking of trying
them at least once.
I was contacted by Jamie Wright telling of the plans
being made for the Ohio Home and Garden Show on
February 26 the 2011.
This year's theme, Gardens that Rock, challenged the region's premiere landscape designers to find creative inspiration in rock and roll music. With 13 fill-size living landscapes, each garden will feature one of rock's greatest icons, eras or legendary songs.
I am hoping this year that the showing will be better
than this years. I felt they missed a wonderful opportunity
to really strut their stuff with the theme of Art in Bloom.
Hopefully the economy will be better by then and the show
will be beautiful. By then we gardeners will be so hungry
for a lot of color.
This posting will be posted to go with Bloomin’ Tuesday

Your mums are beautiful!
I understand the need for sunlight. Short days are not enough for me either.
When I was living in Japan, in Autumn I will visit one of the temple which is host for crysanthemums competition. The flowers were bigger than my hand. But I like your chrysanthemum more. I never saw a copper colour one like yours.
Dear Lona, I do so agree that it is always rather miserable when the days are so short and, generally are rather dismal. Somehow one just wants to hibernate and re-emerge in Spring.
You have such a wonderful collection of Chrysanthemums which do at least give some cheer on these dark days.
Nope, not tired of Mums. Football size mums, what are you talking about? I also require sunlight, I do enjoy the planning and dreaming of gardening that fall and winter bring.
very pretty - so many details and shapes.
You have some awesome mums and the colors are so striking. Love it. I'm thinking spring already. Have a wonderful day Lona.
The Garden Show theme sounds fun. I was glad to see you said you mulched up your leaves. We (my husband) have been mowing the grass and so far just leaving the leaves on the gardens. Haven't decided if they need to be mulched at all or not.
The first photo of the mum has incredible lighting. Just beautiful.
I'm with you. Hate these short days. I will spend the next few months looking forward to spring equinox. You do seem to have lovely light in those beautiful photos, though.
I love your first picture. It is so beautiful. The double pink mum is very sweet.
Another hater of short days here. Every winter I try to convince myself I'm not going to hate them, but I always do.
What happiness to know there is a garden show coming up in the blah of February that will rejuvinate us and get us ready to head out again in spring. I loved your photos. Such pretty flowers.
I never tire of your beautiful photo's.
I love those pictures of the mums Lona and they look well for having had a few early morning frosts. My asters were not at their best and had lots of buds when the frost hit them hard.
I envy your mums.
Never had much luck with them...don't look good after the first year.
Clean up is on my list...not sure when :)
You have a great assortment of types and colors of mums. I love the golds and coppery colors. Did you keep the plants in pots over the winter? I'd love to keep some but have no space for planting. Jean
Hi Lona, thank you for to share your images. They are beautiful.Always I happen to visit your blog,at least a few minutes.Today many time.Lovely your garden!!Your garden inspires me.
You have a gorgeous selection of mums in your garden. Glad you got all your leaves mulched up. :)
Your mums are gorgeous!! And your pictures are lovely.
Stopping by from Bloomin' Tuesday :)
That copper mum and the one above it have amazing colours! yes you are right... screaming fall. All your mums are so pleasing. It must so wonderful to have them. Hope you will get plenty of sunshine. Enjoy all these pretty blooms.
Lona, your mums still look so good. I had to throw mine out, probably because they were not in the ground but in baskets. I wish I had room to put some in the ground because they have a more natural look.

Your photos are simply awesome! You have the knack. Nothing going on in my gardens either! I still have leaves to deal with though.
Your mums are beautiful! Only one of mine came back this year, so my garden is pretty bare of blooms right now. I'm enjoying the early sunrise, but nightfall comes much too soon, doesn't it?
I love your photos. They are so beautiful and really capture not just the essence of fall, but of chrysanthemums too. Good luck with the garden show!

Beautiful Fall mums!
Mums provide such wonderful fall color. Your collection is inspiring! I have a few straw colored mums, nothing special, but they do look good with all the fall foliage. Most of our leaves are still on the trees. Lou did rake the lawns this past weekend. A few more times should do it!
Can't possibly tire of seeing such fabulous Mums ... they really are such lovely colours.
I'm feeling the effects of less sun already too Lona. At least it's less than six weeks until the shortest day and we can start looking forward to longer periods of light again. (Can you tell I'm already counting down?!!)
Lucky you to be done raking too. I have lots more of that ahead of me. It snowed today too so that will be extra fun.
Beautiful selection of mums you have. I don't have any planted in the garden. I buy a couple small ones each year to plant in containers but I never keep them. Maybe I should rethink that?
I am enjoying the earlier light in the mornings now, but would rather have it dark then, when it's cold out, and I have to go to work. It gets dark way too early now.
You have a nice collection of mums. I like all the colors, shapes, and sizes. I've not grown many over the years, and the ones I have now, are smaller ones. I am impressed that you've grown some from seed. How long did it take for them to bloom?
