Lona, that was a great way to celebrate the festive season ... such lovely Poinsettias, but I just loved the bench covered with a plump blanket of snow! A lovely cool breeze wafted in right on cue when I saw it ... so refreshing! Season's Greetings from the toasty warm Downunder!

Merry Christmas to you, too, Lona! My aunt made one of those smileboxes instead of a normal Christmas card this year - aren't they fun?!

Hi Lona!
I wanted to hop over and answer your question about what I do with my amaryllis. I certainly don't feel like an expert but I am lucky enough that they re-bloom pretty consistently. The process I follow is after the bulbs bloom, I start a heavy fertilizing program (I read somewhere that they were "voracious" feeders so I fertilize at least twice a week). Once the danger of frost has past, they go outdoors for the summer (where the fertilizing continues). Right before first frost I bring them indoors and down to my basement for a dormancy period (usually about two months). Some people cut the foliage off before they "rest" and other people I know let the green leaves die during dormancy then just pull them off. They are hardly watered at all during dormancy. At the first sign of life (leaves or buds) I bring them back upstairs and start watering again. I hope that helps??? I feel like I've written you a book ~ hopefully it's not more than you want to know!?! I'm still holding out hope that yours might bloom....

Also, if you have a Lowes nearby, and want some new Amaryllis for cheap, I just bought a few more bulbs (that I needed like a hole in the head!) for a couple dollars each. They have them on clearance here already (with the Christmas stuff). Tina (from In the Garden) gave me a heads up about it and I was really surprised at all the varieties our store had. I couldn't resist!

Merry Christmas Lona ~ I can't believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve already!
