The Central Ohio Home & Garden Show

It is now time to think about making plans to attend this February’s Central Ohio Garden Show in Columbus, Ohio.

I  am expecting better exhibits for this years
show. Because of the economy last years show was
lacking in some areas when the theme ‘Art in Bloom’
could have made for a wonderful opportunity for
some beautiful floral displays.
Then again too the shows are now geared up more
for the outdoor rooms and living areas with large stone
patios, fireplaces, kitchens with ovens, etc.
I have seen here how our local nurseries are now
offering more in hard-scaping and cutting
back on the floral offerings because that is where the
money is being made. Understandably they do have to
make a living and with big box stores offering  cheaper flowers and plants it does make it hard for the smaller
local nurseries to compete.
But I  think  all that hard-scaping is so stark and needs a
lot of flowers and shrubs to soften it so I hope at this
years Garden Show they will take advantage of an opportunity to include more floral into their displays
and encourage people that they can create a total
package in outdoor living.
”Stark”  landscaping may just be my own thinking about
the new trends and many may like it or even opt for
a more low maintenance garden, who am I to knock it?

The Central Ohio Home & Garden Show scheduled for February 26 through March 6 in  Columbus will be held at the Ohio Expo Center.
This year's theme, “Gardens that Rock”, will challenged the region's premiere landscape designers to find creative inspiration in rock and roll music. With 13 fill-size living landscapes, each garden will feature one of rock's greatest icons, eras or legendary songs. Show guests will enjoy landscape elements and aspects that embrace the rock 'n roll theme.
I hope they will not all add more rocks than roll to the displays. LOL! I want to see floral displays !!
I hope they remember that it is winter and we want to
escape into paradises filled with flowers in February.

Lona, this sounds like a great show if they do that Rock N Roll them right. It could be the best of both worlds. You have a great line up of guest speakers. Tovah has a guest column today on Gardening Gone Wild if you haven't already seen it.

It has been the trend here too to feature more hardscaping, sculpures and lawn furniture rather than plants at these large shows. Our show in Toronto is Canada Blooms. I can't wait to get there each March to smell the flowers and get caught up in the gardening spirit again. I loved seeing the flowers in your post today Lona.

What great photo's would love to see this show.

Hi Lona. I hope it's a better show this year for you too. Yours still looks way better than our garden show. They combine ours with a home show and it really ends up being a lot more home stuff than garden. :-(

It is something to look forward to and a nice break from winter while we wait for spring. I'll look forward to seeing your photos.

We have a similar show in southern Ontario, in Toronto called Canada Blooms. It is also in March and it is wonderful to walk through the doors and smell all the flowers. Eyecandy for sure. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do ours. Take care and happy gardening this week.

It sounds like a great show and a wonderful way to escape the dreariness of winter. I like hardscaping - I wish I had more in my own garden - but you are right. It definitely needs to be softened with plantings, or it can appear harsh. Plants give a place soul.

This show is really a very good one. I have attended previously with my grower and nurseryman. Of course his interests were different, but I really enjoyed myself and found it to be very interesting with merchandise and great design ideas.

It sounds like a lot of fun! Speaking of low maintenance we saw plastic shrubs at of all places a nursery today! Even my 12 year old daughter thought it was weird. I'm looking forward to our garden show, they have a theme of fairy tales this year.

It sounds as if your show will be a good one, with an impressive lineup of speakers, and hopefully plenty of flowers! our Connecticut show has been fairly dismal of late, but I live in hope :)

Eileen: It could be a fun show and it will be welcome come February.

Debby: You must attend just once for certain and check it out.

roherbot:I hope they have a good attendance this year. It is a popular event for us flower starved gardeners.

Gardening In A Sandbox: I know you will be ready to attend yours too if you miss flowers as much as I do.

Patsy: I hope they have some garden shows near you so you can attend too.

Kathleen: Same here. They have 400 home exhibits and 13 gardening. They need more gardening this year.

Jen: I hope you get to attend Canada Blooms. We need pictures girl! LOL!

Sweetpea: Thanks hon for all the comments. I bet you and Mommy will have a fun time at your garden show. You can get some ideas for your garden spot.

Deb: Their are many like you who like hardscaping.I like some too but I need my flowers. LOL!

gardenwalkgardentalk: I am glad you like our shows. The first one I attended was on movies and it was so wonderful. It spoiled me I think because none has looked as good as that show.

Catherine: Plastic shrubs at a nursery. That does not sound right at all LOL! Maybe something happened and they lost all of theirs.???

SEO: Do not forget the flowers!!!! LOL!

gardenassylum: I think it is the economy plus the big box stores that is making it hard on the nurseries. I am really hoping for better things this year.

Lona, what a treat, I wish I lived closer and could attend. We have shows like this around here once in awhile, but they don't look as fantastic as this!

Hi Lona,

I was just reading this and WISHING that I could be there (I love Columbus) and then saw my name in the line-up of James Baggett's talk. So I guess I WILL be there at least in spirit and with some photos of my garden.

We're all getting antsy for spring, but the show will help make it feel springish even if it is still cold.

Karen: I know what you mean because when I see others listing their Garden Shows I always wish I could be there. I would go to them all if I was a rich lady.LOL!

DGG: I have high hopes that it will be a great show. Thanks for dropping by!

Sharon Lovejoy: Hey, I think you should just show up and be in the crowd and when he is speaking stand up and ask him if he is talking about you. LOL! Thanks for dropping by Sharon!

After our first big snow yesterday I am so ready for spring. I prefer lots of plants in my garden. Some paths are nice but I think the world already has plenty of cement and stone.

I'm hoping to attend it this year! Last year, the weather just didn't allow us to make the trip. :-(

I've been scrolling down your blog postings, and all I can think is "Beautiful blog....maybe I should get the same camera as Lona's". But it is not so much the camera as the person benind the camera that creates these lovely images, I know.
