Fall Planting All Done - I Promise

No seriously I am done planting for this Fall. I have said that a couple of times already I know but this time I am really finished.
Just when you think you are done planting for the season outdoors you run across those great Fall sales and before you know it you are getting the spade back out.

Elenore Daylily
The prices for these last flowers were so great from the online US Seed Store that I could not pass them up especially when it comes to daylilies.

Clothed in Glory
So two new Elenore and a Clothed in Glory daylily were added to the garden.

Monkshood_aconitum-bicolor2

And a new aconitum bi-colored Monkshood was planted.
Now I am finished, done!
Besides the weather will be getting too bad to get new plants a good start before winter. LOL!

Hydrangea_MacrophyllaMariesliVariegata
I think all of the yard chores are done now also. I took my  Macrophylla Maries Variegated Hydrangea to the basement this morning to spend the winter. It is good to zone 6 so I do not want be in zone denial here in my 5b zone and risk having it killed.
it is still small and is kept potted for easy moving.
(I did pull up the alyssum before I took it to the basement)

Cactus_Nov13

The cactus had a rough summer after being dumped so many times by the cats but it is blooming now.
AaryllisBouquet4 The amaryllis plants were brought up from the basement this morning, watered and then I set them under lights. Last year I had not left them outdoors in the summer to get the sunlight so they did not bloom for me last winter. This time I left them out all summer and then took them to the dark basement at the end of summer so I am really hoping that will make them bloom this time around. If not, out they go.
Since I have tried this method with poinsettia's and it has not worked I am not holding my breath until I see if it is going to work for the amaryllis bulbs.

SeedPackage
Finally I have some seeds I would like to give away to someone who can use them. The Seed Store gave me some seeds with an order which I will not use so if you would like them just email me with your address.
I have Beets, Baby Bottle Gourds, and Arugula.

Happy Gardening,
Lona

You are going to have the most beautiful gardens this year. It will be such a delight for you to see all your pretties in bloom and to share with us. I have barely done anything since I have spent so much time in the kitchen these past couple of months. I need to let the baking go for a couple of weekends but now it is time for Thanksgiving baking. Maybe I'll get there.

My plan to do some outdoor work was thwarted with the thunder and rain that's falling hard right now. I've planted spring bulbs and need to get a couple late plants in the ground. Perhaps tomorrow.

Have a wonderful day!

I love this time of the year, maybe even better than spring. I get to plant pansies, petunias, alyssum, ornamental cabbage and kale, violas.....Look forward to your snow photos... I love you new daylilies.

Hi Lona,
Those are some pretty daylilies!

I love amaryllis. Every year I see them on other blogs and I regret not having any of my own,so Saturday while out shopping, I saw some and bought one. I will be so excited to see it bloom in 4 to 8 weeks.

I know what you mean about fall planting being done and then you find something else to plant! This year, though, I did not plant a single bulb.

I am sure I will regret that next spring when I see yours and all the other garden bloggers lovely flowers!

You have reminded me to take a look at the hyacinths that I planted in a pot for Christmas and left in a dark place - I knew I would forget about them.

Yeah! I think I am done also, started my amaryllis and brought in my cactus to winter over. I am sure I could find more to do if the weather cooperates.

I'm already dreaming of springtime while I rake leaves and cut plants back for the winter. I'm browsing catalogs for some new ideas--like pink daylilies and English roses.

Lovely choices, but I'm sure you know we are considered zone 6 now. I still plant only zone 5 things, well maybe a couple zone 6 things, but mostly 5. Trying to catch a few blogs tonight since I am not able to sleep but things are still crazy busy for a while. Hope all is well there.

Lona, I finally got my last three dwarf conifers planted and a fern...it only took me from July til now to plant them, so speed isn't my strong suit, is it? I love the daylilies, so I'd better be careful not to find any at a greenhouse or I'll be trying to plant some more stuff before the snow flies.

Oh I've done very little planting this fall, you've planted some beauties.
The amaryllis is stunning to say the least - I you think you've let me into a clue as to what I did wrong this summer - no real sunlight - they've been in the garage the whole time. OOPS!

I want to be a dedicated gardner like you. I do! I do! I just get side tracked. Just pinching all the old blooms off keeps me busy. However..my two climbing roses, America are doing beautifully! :)
They are on the side of the house..and I tend to forget them. That's PROBABLY why they are doing so well!!

Hi Lona, I not nearly so organized! Shameful as always, I still have to plant bulbs. Gosh, I hope I can still find some on sale. I got a few end-of-season bargains a couple of weeks back. $1 for 2 gallon perennials! Who could resist? I still have a couple of these perennials to plant. Then there is leaves to be raked and ... if only I were done too!

The new daylilies are beautiful. We had such a hot summer I will have to wait until spring to see what comes up then. May need to do a lot of replanting. Although I am still getting tomatoes of the vines.

You had cats damaging your cactus? I had a stray chicken in my garden the other day. It flew up the rack and walked on my gloxinias. I was left with broken leaves and flowers. But I was glad that the flower buds on one glox was still intact. I hope it will bloom as nice as your cactus ;-) And will keep fingers crossed for your amaryllis. Have a great day ;-D

Oh Lona ~ I hope your Amaryllis bloom for you too. I would hate to think they'll get tossed if not!! Did you fertile them too (while they were outside??) From everything I've read, they are heavy feeders. I have about 75% success with re-blooms when I feed but there will still be a few that won't. Usually those that don't will bloom the following year, they just need some extra time. They are so beautiful tho, they're worth the extra trouble!

You've sure been busy this fall! I like your new additions. 2012 is going to be an amazing year in your garden. I've been tempted by bulb sales but my back is tired so I've been able to resist purchasing additional ones.

Hard to pass up those beautiful daylilies! I think I am done planting, too, but I still have some clean-up to do. Hope the snow doesn't fly before I get it done!
