Roses in November

It has been so wonderful this year to still have roses trying to give a bloom here and there in the rose garden.

LastCrimson_Nov13 ‘Crimson Bouquet’ has three blooms still clinging on the branches on a cloudy cold day. This is my favorite rose and I was thrilled to get a cutting from it to root for me this summer after several attempts over the years. I just do not have much luck with getting root cuttings to start unless it is hydrangeas.

The ‘Burgundy Iceberg’ has even some new buds yet to open even if they are looking so worn and torn now.

Iceberg_Drooping_Nov17
The ‘Iceberg’ roses are still blooming but a very saggy.
The blooms always get a red tinge to them when the nights get colder and with less daylight hours.

The rose that has impressed me the most all season is this
‘Bill Warriner” rose.

This rose has cranked out blooms upon blooms right along.
I have really fell in love with this one and would recommend it to you roses gardeners.

Even on a cloudy, windy and rainy day this rose holds its color and blooms upright.

Elsewhere in the garden this little achillea is still trying to grow and bloom after all the others have been long spent for the season.

The Foxgloves have had a growing spurt getting ready for next springs blooms. Those green leaves really stand out in the flower bed now that everything else is brown or dying.

While the Pansies seem to be just setting in the window boxes and not doing much growing at all.

Pansy_Nov13 Everything else in the garden has went to sleep for the winter  while I make plans and already dream of blooms to come next spring.

Give Thanks
“For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped,”
For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped,
For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb,
For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home .

Everyone Have a Wonderful Weekend &
Happy Gardening,
Lona

Your Roses are really lovely. It's so nice to have things blooming this late in the season. Really have to consider some more for next season. Gives me something to ponder this winter.

Lona, you still have roses blooming? Oh, happy day! Good for you. Mine are all just distant memories, not that I have any to hold a candle to your beauties. We had a steady, cold drizzle here this afternoon and before that I was cramming fake poinsettias into the urns. So much for gardening, eh? Oh, and wrapping tomato cages with garland. Yikes, lol.

I feel the same way about those dang ladybug imposters, how they love to congregate in the corner of the ceiling and stinky dumb things that they are, always falling into food and all over the place. This year they weren't as bad as other years, mostly because there weren't any soybeans planted too close. Soybeans seem to be their 'thing'.

(Just as I wrote this, one landed in my hair, LOL!)

Hi Lona,

Lovely blooms, I have some roses blooming too and really need to take some photos of them.
I have to agree with the Foxgloves too; I love that they are growing at this time of year and provide a very nice splash of green to an otherwise dead or decaying garden.

Lona ~ It must be such a delight to still have roses this late in the season. I really love 'Bill Warriner'. The color speaks to my heart. I'm so glad you were able to get a rooted cutting from 'Crimson Bouquet' too. That is always a thrill to have a cutting root and grow.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving week and holiday ~ FlowerLady

It might be time to give the roses a little 0-0-50 to put them to bed.

We always used to warn our customers at the nursery that it isn't the best thing for them to be blooming in November. Lovely as they are.

Frozen roses, don't do well.

Your roses are gorgeous! I have just a few roses, and they are putting out a new flush of flowers in the pleasant temperatures of autumn. But we have had a couple of frosty nights, and their blooms are doomed. So sad!

I enjoyed the little 'Give Thanks' poem! Have a wonderful thanksgiving!

Really gorgeous November blooms. It makes them seem all the more special that they rewarded you so late in the season. Now, those are plants that love their gardener.

The rain drops on your Roses add that little bit of magic. We have a bank of an HT Rose which happens to be our favourite, unfortunately it is no longer available, I think I will take your lead and try some cuttings next year.

Hi Lona,

The roses have been lovely this year but, alas, mine are finally giving up the ghost. I will trim them a little so the branches do not break from the snow. We have our photos to look at all winter.

What lovelies you still have courageously blooming in November. I'm wondering, how large are your Iceberg roses? The little rose that is still blooming here shows spots and streaks of red now that it's chilly. It's a small rose about the size of a fairy. I have no idea what it is.

The photos of the Bill Warriner rose are stunning!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

It's so great to drop into your beautiful land of plenty when mine is brown and barren. Ahhhhh, like a breath of fresh air over here.

Ya gotta know what a weakness for roses I have!

God bless ya sweetie. You and your family have a marvelous Thanksgiving.

BTW: Giveaway...my place...ya'll come! :o)
