Yellow Trailing Bidens

A lot of Fall yellows were evident at Franklin Park this October.
This large mound of them that were growing at the park were so lovely in the Fall sunlight.

Bidens is a genus of flower in the Daisy family asteraeae.
Often this flower is considered a weed by some gardeners while others do grow it as an annual for its bright yellow or white colored blooms and easy growth. It is used as a filler plant or added to containers. Deadheading promotes more blooming and it prefers full sunlight.FPC_Bidens_BidyGonzales_Triling Bidens ferulifolia

Flowering from Spring to Fall they are only 8 to 10 inches in height and spread 8 to 10 inches.
Bidens species are also used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat dysentery, poisonous bites, and skin conditions.

Have you ever grown Bidens?
Do you use it as a filler plant?
Do you consider it a weed?

Everyone Have a Wonderful Weekend and
Happy Gardening,
Lona

If I had lots of room I would like to have a field of them.
Just want to say your father looked like a sweet loving man.

We have a similiar daisy that grows here in the desert. It's more of a wildflower and some consider it a weed. It also loves sunlight and little water once it's mature. I don't mind them in the garden at all....and they attract lots of butterflies.

I have grown Bidens, trailing and more commpact. It can get out of hand in a container and needs to be deadheaded often. I found that it peters out when the temps get in the 90's. It is in a lot of the pre-made containers.

Lona, at one time we used Bidens a lot in hanging baskets, that was when we crammed baskets and tubs with a large number of different plants. We go for the easier options these days. Never had bidens planted out in the borders though. alistair

We have something like this in our way back woods. It makes such a pretty pop of color every fall.

Hi Lona, I've never grown this plant, but it sure is pretty. If it does well in containers it would be fun to try. Gorgeous color!

I have an area that it would really light up, I've not grown it before though. It is quite pretty.
