We got some heavy rain this morning and by the sound of things we are going to get some more. We really need the rain. It is just too early to be dragging around the garden hoses already.
I love Magnolias and there is nothing any prettier than the Southern Magnolias that were in bloom when we were in Virginia.
Here are a few of the flowers that were blooming at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Virginia.
Kniphofia Red Hot Poker ‘Shining Scepter’
Pineapple Lily ‘Burgundy Sparkle’.
Unknown Tree ? Anyone know this one?
Another Unknown Tree ?
Tecoma stans or Yellow Elder, Yellow Bells , or Trumpet Bush.
Thank you Andrea for the ID of this tree. It was beautiful!

There are so many beautiful plants in this garden - how do you stop yourself digging a few up and popping them in your shopping bag - only joking.
Glad you got some rain too. We got a quarter inch this forenoon but I'm hoping we get more. Our grass in the sun is pretty much dead. We really need it!!
Wow, a fabulous collection. It must be a beautiful place to visit. Hope you have a wonderful week Lona.
Oh my goodness you saw a lot a great blooms at Lewis Ginter! I have to tell you, I get your posts in my Google reader and that first photo, of the magnolia, looked like a piece of art, a painting. Just gorgeous.
It looks like you have many tropical plants there too. That yellow bell flowers is Tecoma stans.

Suncast Horizontal Storage Shed Review
Lovely photos and a great tour. The tree looks like a golden rain tree, Koelreuteria paniculata. Very pretty but considered invasive.
Carolyn: I wondered if it might have been A Golden Rain tree when I took the picture. The flowers were not hanging down but upward so I was not certain about it. Thanks for the ID.
Joy: Girl do not overdo it. I bet you are enjoying the day though.
Nadezda: It was a beautiful place to visit for a flower junkie like myself. LOL!
Andrea: Thank you so much for the tree Id. I so appreciate it.
Janet: Thank you! Sometimes a shot works out well and other times not so much. LOL!
Jen: Thank you and you have a wonderful week too.
Pearl: I hope you got more rain today. We got a little more this morning. Sure needed it.
Elaine: I am good at pinching seeds Elaine. LOL!
Dard: Thank you.
Lona, The photography in this post is really excellent. Everything looks so fresh and light as air, especially the pictures of the astilbe and coleus. The orange hibiscus has such a dramatic composition. Your eye just slides down that stamen in one perfectly curved swoop.
So many beautiful plants at that garden! Your photos are gorgeous.
Looks like a nice visit to the gardens. There are a few there that we grow here. The esperanza is a favorite down here...it can take full sun and has low water requirements. Amazing really how lush and beautiful it will be with so much abuse.
Hi Lona, I think the unnamed tree is Ptelia trifoliata but I'm not positive. On second thought, no. The flowers look similar but the foliage is different.
I wonder how hardy that Chinese Gardenia is. Sure is a pretty thing. Was it fragrant? The Indigo--I have that blooming in my garden. I LOVE it. Your photo is really good.
Love your posts. Sorry I've been gone so long.
Wonderful shots, thank you for the tour. The salvia and azaleas are especially lovely.
