A Good Day to Escape to the Palm Room

Since winter has decided to visit for the day.
One day you hear! We do not want it to stay any
longer than that. The snow flurries have passed
on through and though cold the sun is trying to
get through the clouds.Thank heavens it will not
last long this time of the year.
It will delay the blooms of the hyacinths and the
tulips a little but they will come.
So I will go back and visit the trip to the Franklin
Park Conservatory and show some more pictures.
Maybe we will visit the Palm room and soak up some
more Tropical plants for Fertilizer Friday.
It is Friday and time to " Flaunt Those Flowers"
wherever you may find them today.
So everyone go over to our dear friend Tootsie
over at " Tootsie Time " and join us today.

I would love to be at the Franklin Park Conservatory
today. The Butterflies are being born and it must be
beautiful there. They have almost 150 species of these
flowers with wings and since I have seen only about 5
different kinds in my yard I cannot imagine what a
beautiful sight so many would make.

Since I live in a cold climate and have not saw
real Palm trees I was fascinated by the bark
on some of them.

Don't you just love their hairy textures.

The paper globes looked so pretty in the Palm room
and help brighten up all of the green colors.
They look as though they are floating on air.

There were also more glass sculptures made by
Dale Chihuly
to add colors also.

There were some brilliant colored foliage that stood
out in the greens of the palms in the Topical room.

Bright oranges, pinks and yellows.

Update they are Croton codiaeum vareigatum
.
Thank you Florida Girl!

You of course have to have waterfalls in the garden
and one would expect it in a tropical paradise setting.
You can just make believe you are actually on a tropical
island here with the plants and the sounds of the
waterfalls rushing water.

Why does one always have to reach out and catch
some water in your palm when looking at a water
feature. LOL! I know it is only me that has to touch
everything. It is a habit of mine and I always scold
myself like I would a child saying " do not touch Lona".

Meet my trusting chauffeur and daughter.
Don't you love it when someone catches you
unawares with a camera. LOL!

As for the Flaunting of flowers this was a
another lovely plant I do not know the name of.
Yes there was name plates (like I would have remembered
them anyway without a picture of it), yes there was
two school tours going on (get my point) and have you
not read my 'Duh sign' on the left column. LOL!

It was lavender though.

Update: Yesterday Today & Tomorrow Brunfelsia
Thank you Florida Girl. I just need a tropical gal to
help me identify them.LOL!

and this one was a red-orange...

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend
full of sunshine, warm temps and flowers.

Happy Gardening Everyone !

Fertilizer Friday Blooms

Today is Fertilizer Friday and I do not have anything
blooming right now so I will have to fall back on some
pictures taken at the Franklin Park Conservatory.
So join with us over at " Tootsie Time " and ' Flaunt
those Flowers'. Some of you are starting to get some
beautiful Spring blooms already and it has been
wonderful to see all of them as I travel around the
blogs.

I fell in love with this Bromeliad. I believe it was
aechmea "Ruby Sun."
The big pink blooms with lavender were so large
and just beautiful.

Everyone have a wonderful weekend and
since it arrives Saturday.

Happy Spring Gardening !!

Don't Throw Stones at Glass...

The old adage "people who live in glass houses should
not throw stones " may not be true to the actual meaning
here, but you really would not want to throw stones
at the Franklin Park Conservatory. Not just because
of all of the glass that covers the Conservatory but
also because of the glass on display inside while we
were there....

and especially if you happen to have glass ceilings
that look like this.

This glass ceiling was in the entry ceiling to the
Himalayan Room there. It was just one among the
many beautiful glass displays created Dale Chihuly.

Some of it was a little over my head... no pun intended...
But most just left you in awe of its use in and around
the various rooms of the conservatory.

Maybe a little fire and water with its use in this
water display.

Scattered among the Palm Room displays..

Reeds of glass growing out of the plants....
Is it plants or glass?

Glass reeds were in several of the rooms.

This vase was slightly large for my very small
house......

but I could see maybe one of the blooms from the
vase displayed in one of the flower beds.

Giant bowls of glass were also in different locations.
were they blooms, clams, or just gorgeous bowls?

These were in the Desert Room.

I would hate to wash these giant bowls or blooms.

There were even giant glass balls in the displays.

These made my bowling ball that I have in my
woods flower bed look really small.

These were lite up in a darker room and looked so pretty.

A spot of dark orange to light up all of the green
leaves in the Tropical Room.

The giant glass displays hanging from the ceilings
were not to my taste in home decor but were pretty.

I really would not want to have been the one to clean
or take these fragile hangings up or down.

No one could say they were not eye opening and
works of art. Maybe a couple would have looked
good at the Home and Garden Show's "Art in Bloom".

The Chihuly Exhibition will be on display until
March 28th. Also now through July 8th the " Blooms
and Butterfly
" Exhibition is going on. The butterflies
will be throughout the rooms. They were hanging some
butterfly chrysalis the day we were there in a windowed
room where you could watch them emerge.
The school tours will love this exhibit.

This was not a part of the Chihuly exhibition but
more to my size in home decor.
This miniature conservatory
was just the cutest and
had every little detail included inside.

Happy Gardening Everyone !

Franklin Park Conservatory Blooms

While attending the Central Ohio Home
and Garden Show last week we also paid a
visit to the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus
Ohio. This is such a wonderful place to visit in the
winter to get an infusion of plants and gardening.

This was the first time we had visited the
Conservatory and we enjoyed walking through
looking at what all was there. On that day there
were two tours of school children touring through
and we wondered why our school's did not do this
for the school children. It is a wonderful place to learn
different climates such as the Himalayan Mountains,
Zen gardens, Tropical Rain Forest's and Pacific Island
and some of the plants that grow there.

There were many beautiful orchids growing.....

below palm trees.....

and hanging above your head in trees.

I am not sure what kind of bloom this was but
it was so beautiful.

There may have been snow outside but
indoors it was toasty and warm and steamy in the
Tropical display.

Today is Fertilizer Friday over at Tootsie Time
sponsored by our Tootsie. So everyone "Flaunt those
Blooms."

Happy Gardening Everyone !
