Awards (Off Topic)

I am honored to receive two awards from
Rebecca @ In The Garden
one the "Honest Scrap Award" and the other " Best Blog Award".
I am grateful for the awards and thank you Rebecca!
I am going to follow Rebecca's example
and combine the two awards together in one posting.

The first award is the 'Honest Scrap Award' and the
rules are as follows:

A. Brag about the award:

I am honored to receive this most wonderful and
magnificent award.
There that is done. Did I do good?
But I am in all seriousness honored to
receive it from a fellow gardener

B. Link back to the person who gave it to you:
Rebecca @ In The Garden is to blame for this
session of true confessions and honestly, scrappy replies.
Thank you Rebecca. LOL!

C. Share 10 honest things about yourself:

"Well no award is going to get me to confess all".

So I will tell some silly scrap's or boring tidbits about myself.

1) I am the mother of two wonderful adult children
(one of each) who mean the world to me.

2) Every job that I held is no longer in business and
I was once a Postmaster in my very tiny home town.
Scary huh. Want to hire me now?

3) I am a country girl who loved to hunt with my Grandpa
and of whom the Game Warden
(Who checked my hunting license)
repeated in the local town grocery store that
"did you know there is a woman hunting out the ridge?"
Where upon the proprietor
replied, "yes, and she can shoot and hunts every year".

4) I hate spicy or seasoned food so I do not grow herbs
for eating but for the blooms and I hate garlic.

5) I have had a Genealogy website called "Dust in the Attic"
with history and research for those seeking their
families from Hocking County, Ohio for the last ten years.
It is another passion of mine and I have been able to
help a few in their endeavors.

6) I use to sing in a Gospel Group that sang in different
churches and we were on the radio.

7) That I was bitten on the hand by a water snake as a
small child, once was trapped on a log by one with no
way around or off, stepped on one wading once,
and chased by a Blue racer snake through my
Grandfathers corn field once, so I found out
that I could run like the wind when younger
and forgive me if I offend someone but under the
circumstances I have a real hate for snakes.
No matter the size or kind if they are in my yard
they are a dead snake.

8) That I have fibromyalgia and a bulging disc in my back
which causes me pain so I cannot stand for long periods
but I still get out and try to flower garden because I love
flowers and it brings me peace and joy to be among them.

9) Pasta and chocolate are my weaknesses, next to flowers.

10) That I started this blogging on a trial basis and started
trying to find other gardeners. Now I have found such kind
and generous gardeners and blogging friends that I would
really miss them if I had to quit.

D. Give the award to 7 more bloggers who inspire you:
This one is hard because there are so many that I hate to
just pick seven so please no one be offended.
If you have been picked before please
forgive me and you are under no pressure to participate.

the name of the person who passed it on to you and a

Also an update about the white amaryllis. I did take your advise
and contacted the Amaryllis Bulb Company and they are going
to send me a new Cocktail bulb so they were just great about
making the mix up right.

Happy Gardening Everyone!

Thanks so much Lona! What a treat!
That snake bite sounded a bit scary. I was never scared of snakes but I think I would be with that experience! Nice learning more about you.

Yep...I'm with Rosey Pollen the snake one stuck out for me too...the only good snake is a dead one, and I don't care who I offend by saying it! Very cool bits of scrap about you. So glad you contacted the company and are now getting a new bulb...I do believe people who love gardening are just the nicest. I received only 4 packages of miracle grow in a 5 package container, called the company, they sent me a refund check....so, I bought more, LOL

Glad to hear your amaryllis sage will have a happier ending. The bulbs are too dear in price not to get what you expected.

Wow, Lona!! Thank you so much for thinking of me! What a total surprise!! I will pass it on. It may take me a few days...
Cool....I didn't know you were into Genealogy. I'll have to check out your site. With all those close encounters with snakes, I wouldn't be too fond of them either!

Congratulations on your awards. You are so deserving - I love your blog. I love knowing 10 new things about you. A gospel singing hunter who doesn't like spicy foods and was bitten by a snake and chased by one. Hate that about the fibromyalgia - I know you are in pain most of the time. Hope your day is a good one. Catch ya later.

These were very interesting things to learn about you. I would've loved to have heard the Gospel group, I just love Gospel music!
Congrats on your awards :)

Hi Lona, I am jumping on the snake hating bandwagon too, but doubt I have the nerve to kill one myself. I loved hearing about your other things too. Funny about the businesses closing!

Rosey; Sorry I was too late to give you the award first. You deserve two though ;-)

Darla: Wow, you can fertilize everything now ;-)

Frances: I know isn't that weird? I got no references now ;-)

Catherine; There are times I really miss it now.

Nell: Isn't that terrific, a free bulb!

Kelly: Hey you deserve it lady. You have the greatest pictures and postings.

Rebecca; The two stones theory works out well and was easier. I am glad you did it that way so I could copy ;-)

Tatyana: A free bulb is so great. I thought maybe a discount on one but free is even better.

Becca: That is quite a mixture isn't it ;-)

Loved your post and I totally laughed out loud at this "Every job that I held is no longer in business and
I was once a Postmaster in my very tiny home town. Scary huh. Want to hire me now?"

I can't blame you for your dislike of snakes!

Although I have never been bitten by a snake, I really do not like them. Whenever I see one (in zoos) I don't even want to look at them he he... They just scare me off :-)

Congrats on the award and have a happy Tuesday Lona!

Very interesting! I am so glad you won that award and we get to find out such interesting things about you! I hate snakes to! Remind me to tell you about almost going to the bathroom on a timber rattler (that was a few weeks ago). God definitely spared my hiney on that one!

Thank you so much for the award! That is very sweet! I will post on them soon! THANKS!

Hi Lona, I enjoyed reading your comment on my blog so have taken a look at yours. Good timing since I was able to read those ten things about you right away. We share an interest in genealogy as well as in gardening. Like you, I also have ancestors who left Germany in the aftermath of the Thirty Years War and came (in our case) to Pennsylvania.

Lona...thank you for keeping me in mind:) And it was fun reading tidbits about you. Not boring at all! Your genealogy blog sounds interesting. How wonderful to be able to help people that way.

Sorry to hear about the fibromyalgia. Good luck with the new Amaryllis coming your way!

Congrats on your awards Lona. It was fun to read those interesting tidbits about you too. I'm so glad the bulb company is sending you a new bulb ~ I am going to remember that for down the road.

Barbara: Hello fellow genealogist. My ancestors came into New York and onto Pennsylvania, then they just went everywhere including Canada.I find it all so interesting.

DP, OMG! not a rattlesnake. Gives me the shivers to think about it.

Kanak: I always enjoy your postings so much. Some times I am envious of your tropical plants and critters ;-)

Stephanie: We have something very much in common then.Eck!

Ellie: What is a girl to do? I never saw a chocolate that I didn't like ;-)

Gail: Scary huh? ;-) Talk about your inferior complexes ;-)

Kiki: You all probably heard much more than you ever wanted to know ;-)

I'd hate snakes after having your experiences! And I'm on the chocolate-weakness boat as well. Love it! Especially Dove. But not the super fancy stuff with weird flavors mixed in. Chocolate and peanut butter are divine, though.

Lona, your blog some how was not on my side bar. It is now and I am sorry I did not get your awards untill now. Thank you very much for thinking of me.

Lona, thanks so very much for the award! I really appreciate you thinking of me. I speak of you ofen to my husband as if we are old friends, and I've never met you! Someday we'll have to rememdy that. Maybe at the Home and Garden show we can meet. Your blog has been so enjoyable to me, and I love comparing notes on Central Ohio gardening.
