Franklin Park Conservatory Blooms

While attending the Central Ohio Home
and Garden Show last week we also paid a
visit to the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus
Ohio. This is such a wonderful place to visit in the
winter to get an infusion of plants and gardening.

This was the first time we had visited the
Conservatory and we enjoyed walking through
looking at what all was there. On that day there
were two tours of school children touring through
and we wondered why our school's did not do this
for the school children. It is a wonderful place to learn
different climates such as the Himalayan Mountains,
Zen gardens, Tropical Rain Forest's and Pacific Island
and some of the plants that grow there.

There were many beautiful orchids growing.....

below palm trees.....

and hanging above your head in trees.

I am not sure what kind of bloom this was but
it was so beautiful.

There may have been snow outside but
indoors it was toasty and warm and steamy in the
Tropical display.

Today is Fertilizer Friday over at Tootsie Time
sponsored by our Tootsie. So everyone "Flaunt those
Blooms."

Happy Gardening Everyone !

Absolutley beautiful! I love botanical gardens. Before we were married my hubby and I would always visit the one in San Francisco. Miss being so far from it now.
It is sad that not all the schools use it as a field trip. Of course here, fields trip have become extinct. So sad.
Sure hope you have a great weekend!

It's nice to be inside a hot house when the weather outside is just the opposite.

Lona, what a beautiful place go to and enjoy. Wonderful pictures, as always.
Thanks for letting me know about the spammer. I recognized their most recent one they added and sent them a message.
Looks like they delete the comment section so we can't tell them what low lifes they are.

Wonderful orchids Lona! I know how good it feels to be inside a tropical paradise when it is winter outdoors. Great to have conservatories like this one to visit! ;>)

My orchid in her mini-greenhouse is so jealous of those beauties in their hot house.

Lona~~ This does indeed look like the perfect remedy to winter. Although I don't grow orchids, I sure enjoy photos of them and yours are no exception. It was sure nice of you to share your fairy with Catherine's daughter. She looks happy there.

One of my first dates was with my wife here, at the tail end of my MFA at OSU. Lovely memories.

Oh the conservatories are doing great to show the tropical plants to temperate climate people. Phytotrons like these are expensive to maintain. Those Phalaenopsis orchids and shell ginger are really common plants here with us, but they are grown in a bit colder temps and higher elevation.

It's very pretty there! I need to visit more gardens around here, I don't even know if we have a conservatory near by. I bet living where there is so much cold and snow in the winter, a place like this is especially enjoyable.

These orchids must have made the conservatory looking quite exotic. The white moth orchid is nice :-) love it!

I hope to see some blooms from my orchids soon. In fact one of them just gave me a surprise with its flower buds. When they blossom, I will post a pix in my blog ok.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I do enjoy visiting nice warm tropical green houses during the cold winter weeks, sometimes you can almost feel like you are in a tropical country, until the icy cold wind of reality bites.

Lona lovely place to tour and I so adore orchids. Have a great weekend. We are supposed to get into the 60's here by Monday and we'll send some of it east. Diana

I think every community needs a public conservatory nearby where winter-weary gardeners and others can just walk and enjoy some boosts of living plants and warmer temperatures, don't you? This vicarious visit to Franklin Park boosted my spirits, too!

Lona, that is a great place to spend some time. I love to walk through conservatories.
It is cold and damp here today, so I will also be spending time indoors.
Have a great weekend.

Be still, my heart! Your lovely photos were quite a boost to my tired spirits today. We're in the midst of another snowstorm -- right when I thought we were done with that jazz. Now I want to slap down a credit card and fill the house with orchids. :) I won't... but I want to!

I love Franklin Park too. It is breathtaking. I think it is also where I visited in a past October and they had a huge and wonderful corn maze. I remember happy children shouting and frantic parents searching for their kids. There was a big sandy area in the center where half a dozen kids played, we adults stood in a tower and watched them.

All best to you,

Isn't it a lovely spot? I'm so glad you enjoyed it, kinda made up for your disappointment in the Home and Garden show! I've got to go back for Blooms and Butterflies. Two of my favorite things, combined!

Lona girl there is no better remedy for the last of the "winter blues" than visiting a place like that : )
Orchids are such amazing beauty but I had to take an oath NOT to kill anymore of them .. so they stay in the stores etc .. it's best for us both ? LOL
