Daffodils

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills.
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a boy:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company;
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

I love daffodils. I have some in my front flower bed, but they are all yellow, not white. I thought I had planted some white bulbs, but guess not.

Wonderful post Lona, you can't help thinking of Wordsworth when you think of daffs. Your pictures are absolutely stunning. :)

Love your fresh new look with the daffy-down-dillys. I can never read that Wordsworth poem without thinking about the novel The Eyre Affair. Ruined for life, I'm afraid!

Lona, which variety is this? I keep thinking I should know, but I don't! Beautiful. I still only have my Early Sensations blooming, they look so lonely all by themselves.

I love the contrast of the yellow centers with the white outer petals. I hope your daffodils stay in bloom for a long time :-)

I do not know the name of this daffodil. It was here when we bought the house years and years ago. I keep dividing it and moving it around and around and around.

I just love your photos, Lona! Nothing says celebrate spring quite like the daffodil. My favorite variety called 'Geranium' is blooming now and the fragrance is delicious. I hope you're getting a healthy dose of spring weather.

I just love the time of daffodils! I have lots now, but it's too rainy to take any pictures. My seeds are doing well, but still no sign of DW begonias or datura! Waste of money, I guess. Well, my stock seeds are coming up, but let's see if they bloom this year. My Mrs. Moon pulmonaria is opening buds now, but you have me wanting a brunnera too. I bought a pretty poppy in bloom, but it's still in the pot. Better tuck it into the garage on this chilly night!
