Blooming Now in September

There has certainly been a feel of Fall in the sir this
week. Lows in the upper forties and lower fifties and
highs from 70 to 75 degrees.
If I look closely at the trees there is a tinge of color
starting to show through some of the leaves.
I am so not ready for Fall to arrive and I the warm
flower filled days of Summer are going to be so missed.

Anemone2_Sept8

The flower containers look worse now this year than I
can remember them from past years. It is time to be on the
lookout for some pansies to put in the window boxes
and chrysanthemums for a Fall look. I have a couple of
containers that I over wintered in the basement that now
are starting to form buds but a couple more to add to them
would be nice.

Anemone_Sept8

Some more of the Fall Anemones are starting to bloom
and the Chocolate Snakeroot plants are getting buds.
I seem to have lost the name of this pretty anemone
does anyone have a clue?
Poor thing was forgotten about and bigger plants planted
in front of it.

Caryopteris_FirstChoice2
The new caryopteris ‘First Choice’ Mist shrub
that was planted this Spring is starting to bloom and
I love its blue blooms.

Caryopteris_FirstChoice3

It has done well in its sunny spot but had to be
watered lately because of the lack of rain fall.

Coleus_Pots_Sept3

Late planted Coleus seeds were sown to help add some Fall color.

Coleus2_Sept3

They are just another seed failure of not getting what
you thought you were going to get from the picture.
They were suppose to have bronze colored edging and are
a disappointment and not too Fall looking.

DavidPhlox_Sept3

Some of the deadheaded tall phlox are getting a few
smaller blooms and have been so wonderful.

NikkiPhlox2_Sept3

Nikki tall phlox has been a late bloomer since it
is just a baby. I swear the fragrance of it smells like roses.
Soooo good!

BlueBall_LauraPhlox_Sept3

Since I love tall phlox some new additions are on their
way for Fall planting to add to those already I have.
I needed something to take the place of the old mildew
ridden Bee Balms that are going to the woodland bed.

DutchessOfAlbany_Clematis_Sept3

The Duchess of Albany clematis that got moved
to a more sunny location in the rose bed has gotten
a few blooms finally. So she must be happier in her
new spot.

LuciousGrape_Lantana_Sept3

The Luscious Grape Lantana is still blooming away.

LuckyStar_Echinacea_Sept3

The new Lucky Star echinacea has gotten another
bloom.Poor thing was planted behind some cosmos
that have decided to grow like crazy. Finally !
The cosmos is getting buds so I may have some blooms
after all from the seeds that were planted. Transplanting
them did not work well at all for me so I threw some seeds
directly into the soil knowing this process had failed me
numerous times, but thinking what the heck the seed
is just going to waste. Surprise!

Eupatorium_ChocolateSnakeRoot2_Sept3

Eupatorium ‘Chocolate’ with Party Dress Anemones about
ready to bloom.

Geranium_RedRosebud

Red Rosebud Geranium

I see in the Rose garden that some of the roses are
getting a few new buds and I know they will probably
be the last roses for the Summer.

MRoses2_Sept3

The Crape Myrtle shrub has almost finished blooming
for this summer. It was such a delight this year.

Crape_Myrtle_Bee2

I hate to see all of the blooms fade for the Summer
but….

Sleepy

the old stray cat doesn’t care about a thing other
than id I might feed it or a good nap in the sun.

Good morning Lona. You still have so many pretties in bloom. Crepe Myrtle is such a beautiful plant. They are a popular landscape plant and people use them here to divide neighbors property. Love the color of your lantana. I am hoping that phlox will grow for me next year. Didn't have any luck this year. Hope you have a great weekend.

Fall is really in the air here. Normally we can have a really mild one, but so far it's been cloudy and or raining. I'm sure hoping next year we see some more sun.
I like the Coleus, even if it wasn't what you expected. There is so much blooming there. The Crape Myrtle is just beautiful.

Hi Lona, I've got three pink Japanese anemones, all look similar to this one. Could it be, 'September Charm,' 'Pamina' or 'Prinz Heinrich'?

The Duchess is looking very fashionable. I cut mine back so she's decided to visit a foreign land for awhile.

Love your phlox. Mine seem to have half blooming half faded panicles making them kind of ugly. They still smell good though. More shade is needed I think.

And would you believe my Crape myrtles are just starting to bloom? They are way behind schedule.

OSC [Old Stray Cat] looks like he needs a scratch behind the ears. Sleepy time. :)

Truely wonderful fall garden, my garden is on the downward slope to winter it seems. Not one aster has flowered but is covered buds and the sedum are almost finished. Goldfinches have cleanup all the heads of the coneflowers and rudbeckica. It will just have to leaf color it a few weeks. Have a wonderful weekend gardening.

Lona, what you have blooming looks great. I think everyone's containers took a beating this year. I have never seen that rose type geranium.

Lona your flowers look fantastic and you have some I'm not familiar with (but would like to be ;-). What a pretty Clematis the Duchess of Albany is. I planted Anemones seeds last fall in a container and they didn't come up. When I dug into them to find out I guess they had rotted. Must of been all our rain last winter or maybe not as good of drainage in the container as there should have been. I have never had them before so now I need to try again.

I've never before seen a rosebud geranium. Very pretty! Good photos today!

I do so love a blue bloom. Your photos are lovely. I've had to plant new container plants this past few weeks to augment the few that were left. Brought some color to the place though.

A radiant selection of blissful blooms, Lona. I'm about to tip some of my containers out, because there's really so much blooming in our garden that I don't need what's left of the containers. We share some plants, such as the caryopteris and the Japanese anemones, and 'Chocolate' eupatorium, though mine isn't yet blooming. Its native relatives are, however, so that's making me happy.

Lona, the photo's of your flowers almost seem like an artist's dream..and not real. To be able to raise flowers like that is a dream of mine. Perhaps it's because I don't give my garden enough of my time? Not to mention not having the know how, and not taking the time to read and learn. So...that being said...um..
can I hang around you? Hmmmmm?

All your flowers are so beautiful that it's hard to choose a favorite. With winter all too close, every flower seems extra special right now.

I wish I could show some phlox blooms--not one this year in the backyard. Doesn't seem to matter what light or water they're getting...grrr.

Have a great weekend yourself Lona.

Hi Lona,

It's always sad to see the plants begin to turn and Autumn arrive... As much as I love Autumn, for the past couple of years now I just haven't been ready for it.

Wonderful photos, I am sure you will treasure each flower that blooms now, knowing what's around the corner.

Wonderful post! The Red Rosebud Geranium are very interesting. I am as glad as anyone to see some cooler temps, but my hearts drops a little to think of the roses saying goodbye for another season. I guess we all need time to prepare for the next season of blooms! I have another raised bed to construct and some roses to move in October.

Loved that red rosebud geranium! I'm going to miss the warmer weather soon, but it's still going strong in Texas and winter doesn't last long here.

It sure is chilly these days... my hands are so cold! It is hard to type. I cannot bring myself to close all the windows... that will be the norm soon enough. I love your September blooms ... especially caryopteris! Mine have not done too well. Lovely Chrysanthemum too. Sweet kitty ending. Lovely photos. ;>)

What a great display of flowers, Lona! Your garden seems to have plenty of color left, even though autumn is on its way. Here in the Netherlands the first leaves are turning. The Parthenocissus is turning red and yesterday I noticed yellow leaves on the trees in our street - Ginkgo, I believe.
It has been drizzling a lot lately, so no Indian summer here!

Lona, you have so many beautiful blooms! I know exactly what you mean about the containers, mine are absolutely dreadful and I might have to start clearing them out. Your coleus is especially beautiful, even without the bronze edge.
