Hello, I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful
weekend weather we are having here in the Buckeye state.
With a cool down and a longer weekend it was
just right for a getting in a hike around the area parks.
Here are some of the wildflowers and butterflies that were
spotted yesterday on our hike at Clear Creek Metro Park.
Woodland Sunflowers and Black-eyed Susan’s
The Black Swallowtails were enjoying the Ironweed.
Fields of Brown-eyed Susan’s
Downey False Foxgloves
Some had Tattered Wings.
The Bees were enjoying the Green Headed Coneflowers.
Green Headed Coneflowers were plentiful…
They were growing in mass among the creek.
Some Orange Jewel Weed also was growing along the creek.
Monarchs were enjoying all of the blooms and sunshine.
The Thistle blooms were very popular with them.
Some buttery Ox Eyed Sunflowers.
The Sumac Berries are ripening.
Sweet Yellow Goldenrod
Bees were burrowing into the Tall Bellflowers.
Thistle Blooms.
The Wood-Sytr was staying near the ground.
The tall bunches of Tick Trefoil were just so pretty.
The Milkweed was getting big pods.
Even a Dragonfly was about sitting on a Horse Tail Rush.

That is a bunch of lovely wildflowers and the insects enjoying them. Those gray headed coneflowers are really something.
Gorgeous flowers and insects, Lona! Your green-headed coneflower is known around here as wingstem. Green-headed coneflower makes more sense. :)
We've had a bad year for butterflies and bees, though it looks as if they are thriving in your neck of the woods. Too much rain here!
I'm wishing I hadn't pulled out that goldenrod last year after seeing your photo. It provided such good fall color. Oh well.

I certainly love wildflowers, that's for sure. I bought a book called Wildflowers of Ohio to help me identify them. I don't mind the cooldown, but I still wish we'd get some rain.

That was an enjoyable walk in the wildflowers. Love all the critters taking in the sweets from the flowers.
Hi Lona Dear, I'm amazed at the array of wildflowers still abloom in your neck of the woods. Usually by this time everything is toast in the wild areas in my neck of the woods. Love the butterflies too. You must have been awfully patient to get such amazing photos. Always a pleasure!
Wonderful wildflower and butterfly photos! What butterflies have to put up with... just tattered dresses they are wearing... poor things. Birds it seems only see them as flying caterpillars. ;>(
Wow! What a lot of beautiful wildflowers blooming there. It makes me want to find a place to hike around here and see if anything is blooming. I can't believe all the butterflies there either, they've all moved on from here now.
Your walk was very inspirational Lona! So many butterflies and gorgeous wildflowers. I need to take a nature walk! I never appreciated thistle blooms until I started gardening and noticed all the insect activity around them. Looks like the butterflies are included in that group. I "try" (mostly unsuccessfully) to grow artichokes because the blooms remind me of them ~ and I'd rather have those in my garden than thistles! Hope you had a good holiday weekend too. It went by much too fast.
What a beautiful place....I wish I could have walked with you, but your pictures show the natural beauty so well, so I guess that is the next best thing :-)
