Indoor Blooms For Friday

I hope everyone in the states are enjoying their
Thanksgiving and for those who do not celebrate Thanksgiving or are well past Canada Day are having a wonderful weekend too.  Everyone is caught up
on family and friends and stuffed like so many turkeys
and the guilt is just now sinking in, “Get Over It Already!”
This weekend is also filled with football and Ohio State is
playing against rival Michigan State Saturday so I have to throw out a …
GO BUCKS!!!!!

We are running the gambit in weather extremes
the last few days with all of them including the wet
varieties; rain, sleet, and snow flurries.
So it is going to be blooms that are happening indoors now.

 C_Cactus2
The poor Christmas Cactus is blooming and I am
wondering how since it was so neglected this summer.
It was left to drown and parch off and on all summer.
Blown over a few times and attacked by Meow and still
it is blooming.
New potting soil is what it will get  after it has finished blooming. I wonder if  die  from the shock if I give it some tender care? LOL!

C_Cactus
This Christmas Cactus always blooms for Thanksgiving
so maybe I should just call it a ‘cactus’ period and leave off
the Christmas part since mine seems to be the earlier blooming variety.

 Violets

This African Violet is also starting to bloom again.

Some sad news to report ,or gardening failures, is
that both of the Streptocrapus plants, Roulette Red and
Inkblot died this summer. I have the worst luck keeping
indoors plants growing but it was my own fault where they are concerned.   We put on a water softener and
I think the salt got to them before I thought about the
consequences it would have on the plants.
The violets were salvaged by changing out the soil and
are starting to recover again.
Now if I can keep from doing them anymore damage.

The Amaryllis bulbs are out of the dark basement
and into the light and are starting to grow. I am hoping
they will bloom again for me. They were a blessing
last winter when I was hungry to see colorful blooms.

The Yellow Gerbera that was brought indoors
is still growing and blooming.

 Gerbera_Oct29

The yellow miniature roses have had a set back since
they were brought indoors. It lost almost all of its leaves
but is now starting to recover.

I see additions to the indoor plants again this winter
as my cabin fever and want for color increases.
What are you growing indoors this winter?

Happy Gardening!
Lona

I love your indoor plants and African Violets! I grow African Violets too and mine is starting to bloom again. Most of my indoor plants are doing quite well. It's wonderful to have them while everything else outside are covered with snow! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!:)

You must be doing something right as your plants look pretty healthy. I have a christmas cactus in bloom with the same colouration. I only water my plants with water I have let stand in the watering can for several hours to a day to let the clorine in the water dissipate.

Lona girl you may have inspired me to yet once again (after about a million tries) I will invest my money, time, and emotions in a Christmas cactus .. because I just have to right ? what is Christmas without that cactus ?
I don't have any flowering plants here in my office aka kitchen .. just some oops .. ok .. there is this poor African violet that is probably convinced I am an evil scientist set on destroying it .. it actually starts to shake if I go near it .. poor thing .. but as i was saying .. I bet there is going to be a sale on Xmas cactus soon .. right ? hehehe wink wink

Hi Lona! Hope you enjoyed a wonderful thanksgiving. Canadians celebrated Thanksgiving in October and I am now decorating for Christmas.

I love the amarylis planter! So pretty! I hope yours blooms for you this year. I've had good luck keeping them in the past.

Indoors I have two varieties of palm and one asparagus fern. I brought in a pot of sage and parsley and so far so good. I always bring in one particular geranium and it has decided to bloom again.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Lona,

Lovely photos, I particularly love the roses and Christmas Cactus reminds me of my childhood as my mum always had one... They've been out of fashion here for a long time but recently I've seen them in shops again and I'm tempted to get one just to reminisc.

My indoor plants are Orchids, Cyclamen and Peace Lily. The Cyclamen has been flowering for around a month or more and I have a new stem growing on the miniature Orchid - very excited :)
I will take photos of the Orchids when I get chance, hopefully over the weekend.

No Thanksgiving celebrations here in my part of the world ... but I hope you and yours had a fabulous time.

Your indoor blooms are very bright and cheery. What a shame about your Streptocarpus! The African Violets all seem to be doing well though. I just love those containers that you have your AVs in ... they are just lovely!

Your Thanksgiving Cactus is a stunner ... they seem to thrive on neglect and yours looks terrific. So don't pamper it too much when it's finished flowering.

Beautiful plants, Lona!

The weather here is suddenly snowy - very early for us - we still have autumn leaves on the trees!

I'll be growing some nice scented hyacinths indoors - though I confess I've been too busy to think much about it yet!

I can still remember the blooms of your amaryllis. They were so gorgeous. Your AV is beautiful as well. AV don't do well in my garden as the heat is too much for the plant and its flowers.

Indoor blooms, what a great idea! I might have to do the same since I am most definitely without outdoor blooms now. I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.

Indoor plants hate me, so the only plants that come indoors are the Christmas and Thanksgiving cactus during a hard freeze. Your indoor plants look happy and beautiful though!

The plant in the 7th picture of my last post is the rose Veilchenblau.

Lona, Hope your Thanksgiving holiday was everything you wanted it to be. Your Christmas catus is great. Ours is just green, but no blooms. We are going to try to get it to bloom by Christmas. Time will tell. Your violets look healthy also. Cannot wait to see your Amaryllis in bloom. Ours grow outside in the ground and are finished each year by the end of May. Blessings, Chris.

Hi Lona, I'm sorry about your Streptos. I lost mine too a few years ago and figured it was just neglect on my part since I'm not much of a house plant person.

I love your African violets and I see a lot of promise in that Amaryllis bulb! Pretty Gerbera too!

Your violets are pretty! I have never been successful at houseplants. I'm not sure why, but I seem to forget all about them til they are dry and crispy. I'm much better off with outside plants. :) Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!

Hi Lona

Your little violet looks as if it is blushing. Sorry to hear about your streptocarpus - they can be difficult if they don't get the right water. They looked lovely in those planters.
