I have been wanting to do a posting for Noel’s meme
over at “A Plant Fanatic in Hawaii” on the topic of The Hot, the Loud and the Proud for quite sometime now.
But lets face it, I live in OHIO, and tropical does not
exactly grow in my clay soil or in my sunny windowless home. Also I do not have very many hot colors in my
garden beds. The hottest plants I have going is some shocking pink Achillea or a Hot Papaya Echinacea.
Well maybe I should also be truthful here and add that
I know nothing, nada, duh, about tropical plants.
So do not expect fancy plant names in this posting.
So when we were at the Franklin Park Conservatory before
Christmas I got some photographs of some beautiful tropical's that they have growing there.
I have been saving the pictures just so I could post them
for Noel’s meme.
So away we go !

Oh what a lovely sight on this cold, snowy midwest day. One can only dream. I bet your day looks about like ours with blowing snow. Hope you are safe and warm dreaming of tropical climes.

wow, i could spend some time in franklin park especially if there's also some chihuly in the gardens....that i love you plant looks like some amazing bromeliad - not sure what since there's too many to even think about but those are quite exceptional with the pink edges - even i haven't seen that in hawaii :)

Awesome tropicals! So lush and beautiful, all of them. Mostly, you have ti plants, crotons, and bromeliads in there, all some of my favorite plants.
Dear Lona, I think that you have certainly captured the hottest, loudest and proudest parts in Ohio for your posting! Botanical gardens can provide such a fantastic burst of colour in these dark and dreary days.

Hi Lona, Great shots of the tropicals. I went to a tropical greenhouse in Toronto today. This gardener needed to smell and feel growing plants. A perfect escape!
Those are definitely some proud looking flowers and foliage. I love those ginger kind of flowers. Will be growing them.
Your photos of tropicals certainly fit the hot, loud, and proud theme. I've not been to visit Noel's blog in quite some time, I may just sashay over there and see if some of that heat rubs off while it snows, sleets, and howls here.
Keep warm and for goodness sake don't slip on the ice out there!
Lona, I am not really big on tropicals either. I did try some Crotons outside last year and am wintering them over in the house. We will see how they do when I put them outside again.

You have some wonderful photos of some Bromeliads here and Crotons...looks mighty toasty where they live. I have some dahlia seedlings from your seeds....YIPPEE!! (I know it was fast wasn't it) greenhouse gets all the credit!!

My favorites are the flowers in the 13th and 14th photos ~ they are lovely!
A perfect post for today, when so much of North America is swirled in blasting snowdrifts. I feel much warmer having basked in these hot tropical beauties, Lona!

Ah, one of my favorite places! I've got a post from there coming up myself someday soon. Your photos are great. I was in your neighborhood last weekend at a retreat in Logan at Camp Akita. Pretty but cold!

How beautiful. A place like this is a wonderful escape on a cold day. I love the pink bromeliads at the end of the post. I used to want to grow those but never found one and for some reason the urge hasn't overtaken me again (even tho I still like them).
