Lily Days are Here

We have been having days of rain again and I can see some of the flowers are getting distressed by all of the water around their roots.
IMG_0027
You know it is a wet season when toadstools are growing in the grass. With the rain and humidity  the siding on the house is greening with algae which I have to scrub and hose off and the outdoor furniture cushions are turning black from the mildew. I had to spray the cushions this morning with a bleach water solution to get rid of it. This is the first year my outdoor cushions have mildewed.

But on the brighter side….

Lily_Bed_June21 the lily bed along the Woodland garden are starting to bloom and there are many buds.
By the way the string in the picture runs all around the circumfuse of the Woodland bed to deter the deer who love to munch on them. The string breaks up the deer’s paths that use to run through this section. It is suppose to be built of an invisible twine to spook them when they run into it but here in our small community I could not find any and used a nylon crochet thread but it has helped. I also use a deer repellant and garlic clips which I hang onto the string.

Lily_Orange An assortment of Asiatic lilies were planted here in this section so I do not know some of their names. There are many of the orange lilies here.

Lily_Butterfly
The pollinators seem to really love the orange ones, me not so much. LOL!

Lily_Red There were also a few red ones that bloomed earlier.

  Lily2_LtYellow
There are these white lilies which have a tinge of green to them.

Lily_LtYellow

 Lily2_PureWhite
There are also some pure white ones in the assortment that I just love.

Lily_PureWhite

Lily_Pink The pink and white are also a pretty lily.

Other lilies now blooming in the garden beds are…

Lily_Elodie_Earwig

“Elodie” pink which the little Earwig seems to fancy.

Lily3_Elodie

 Lily2_PrairieBlueEyes

  “Prairie Blue Eyes” daylily

Lily_PrairieBlueEyes

 Lily_GardenPleasure

“ Garden Pleasures” orienpet

Lily2_Orienpet_GardenPleasure
I can see this lily has browning edges which may be weather related.

Lily_Lolipop

The “Lolipop” lilies are finishing their blooms now.

Lily_Lolipop2

 StelladeOro_Daylily

“Stella de Oro” daylily is blooming in several locations about the garden. This one has been divided several times over the years.

StelladeOro2_Rain

I had to throw in one rose to this posting..

Rose_RomaBella2
“ Roma Bella” rose is not liking the rain and humid weather and she is tinged with brown and it really ruins the beauty of this rose.

I hate to complain about the wet weather we are continuing to have because it could turn into a dry spell and any moment here in Ohio.
But tropical plants would do well here this year in the garden if I had any and of course the weeds just love the wet weather. On the bright side the weeds are easier to pull when it is so wet. LOL!

Lona

I love the white with a tinge of green and the solid white too. All of them are pretty. Some of that rain is visiting us - thank you. I'm delighted to have some rain on my flowers.

Love the lilies - beautiful! We have had so much rain here in Mass this year too. The plants are happy, but I'm not! You pictures are fantastic - I was going to ask you what you use for a camera and then I scrolled down to comment and saw your camera pic. :) Question answered!

Roma Bella still looks beautiful. I love your lilies. That butterfly looks like it belongs there.

I love those white ones, they just make you stare back at them, but I have to say, that everytime I drive by orange Lilies, they catch my eye everytime and look lovely, as do yours. Orange is not my favorite color, but yet orange flowers I do like. Sorry about your Roses. I have a feeling you are going to battle problems this year too with this ever changing weather of one extreme into another.

I love lily time! And yours are gorgeous. Can't seem to pick a favorite! The pic of that black butterfly on the orange lily is wonderful!

Lona, your lilies are wonderful. They're in my top five favorite of flowers. The white ones are the best as their perfume seem to be strongest. I am grateful that I don't have to deal with deer here. A friend who lives in the country can't seem to grow anything because the rabbits, deer and everything else eats all the plants to the ground.

What a beautiful array of lilies. Most all of our lilies are gifts from friends and neighbors, which makes them all the more special.

Your lilies (and rose) are gorgeous! Our Stella d'Oro just started blooming yesterday. The others are budded but not yet open, and I am waiting impatiently! I get to enjoy them twice.... yours and ours too!

I hear you about the rain. They are complaining that we have just had the coldest, wettest spring ever.

But your flowers look wonderful despite it.

Great shots.

Gorgeous Lona! I put Elodie on my fall bulb list after you gave me her name. I think she is so exquisite ~ I hope the earwigs don't mess her up too much.
Some of my asiatic lilies (like Lollipop) didn't come back this year ~ not sure why? I am trying again this fall and hoping for better results.
Hope you dry out soon!

Lona girl your lilies are absolutely stunning ! I love them all but sadly I only have two little patches left of my original ones .. Starfighter I think is the name? and Casa Blanca which I love .. yours are just amazing girl ! .. we have been in rain mode back and forth and I understand what you mean .. it gets very dreary indeed with so little sunshine .. then straight into the heat humidity cycle .. yuck !
But that is the weather .. no fixing it eh ? LOL
Joy : )

Your lilies are beautiful ~ love the pure white and the white with the touch of green. The butterfly does accessorize well with the orange! lol I like orange but have a really hard time fitting it into my garden.

Hi Lona,
We have had just the opposite weather wise. There has been lots of sun and cloud but no rain. Then yesterday we finally had rain. You could almost hear the garden sigh in relief.
Your lilies are just beautiful. Mine are only just buds. I see you have Japanese Beetles. I don't envy you that battle!! They have yet to arrive here in Huttonville. Have a great weekend.
