Backwoods Festival 2011

It was a very cool morning to attend the Backwoods Festival Friday. In the upper 40’s and overcast with a chilly wind that even the sea of people did not block out from going through you chilling you. But if you are into Crafts and Fall decor it was a paradise of eye candy.

BWF_RunForTheCrafts
We were greeted by Ohio’s  biggest Buckeye fan. She was sitting in the middle of Stone leave birdbaths and decorations for the garden. I love these stone leaved birdbaths but a little pricey for my small purse. Colorful glass plates from thrift shops were made into glass flowers of every color.

There was quite the rush by many to grab up a wagon full of the many Chrysanthemums that were for sale.

BWF_Mums

The Tin Man was waiting at the entrance on the path that lead down to the food booths. Kettles of beans were cooking over open fires that smelled so good.
Some of the good eating that was offered were: Vegetable Soup in Bread bowls, Sausage Gravy and biscuits, Fish, Brats, BBQ Pork which also smelled so good, Fried Green Tomatoes, Kettle corn, Apple Dumplings, Fried Buckeye’s and Carmel apples just to name a few.
I brought home some Buffalo jerky for my son hunts on occasion and likes game meat. He took it to work this morning to share with the guys.

I heard a few grumbles to other men there by some husbands who were dragged along with the wives to carry things that the only reason they came was for the food. LOL! Right, like they are too macho to admit they liked to look at all of the great displays so that they could go back home and make that table or birdhouse.
Or grab up that Buckeye memorabilia or funny signs for their man cave. LOL!

BWF_Pumpkins There were wagons and tables loaded with pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, Bittersweet and small bales of straw for that Fall decorating.

BWF_Grinch
You will always find a few Grinch’s at the festival. LOL!

BWF_Snowman
And there are always booths upon booths filled with Christmas and Fall crafts. I wish I could have gotten more pictures but some booth crafters do not like people taking pictures of their crafts so I had to respect that since I use to sell crafts also years ago.

BWF_Pretty_Pumpkins These painted pumpkins were so pretty and some were really cutesy.
I liked the Acorn sign that you could get your name or message painted onto for free. I brought one of those home to make a display for the front door and an iron Scarecrow form to dress up for Fall. I will show him when I get him dressed out for his debut.

BWF_Stonehouses
These stone houses were my favorite things of the day. The gardener in me would have loved to have one for the  Fairy Garden.  They also had stone toadstools of every size and great stone troughs which were made into Fairy Gardens.

Backwoods_Festival3_2009 My daughter and I had a wonderful time spending hours looking at everything that was offered this year. Finally the sun decided to come out as we were heading out of the Festival.
We had some other chores to run before heading home.
We were greeted by these gorgeous rays shining through the clouds as the sun set on the hills as we neared home.

Sunset_Dark There is always sunshine beyond the clouds of life and a promise of a new day.

Everyone have a wonderful weekend and
Happy Gardening,
Lona

Looks like so much fun. Autumn/Fall has always been my favorite time of the year. Always loved the colors, etc. I'm hoping that this year my friends Linda and DeDee will go with me to some fall festivals. I never could get my late husband to go with me to anything like that. I always had to go alone.
Hugs,
Kay

That food there is amazing. Smells and tastes so yummy. I went last year but decided to go to the COuntry Living Fair today instead. They don't have the food that the Fest has but they had some really great vendors.
I have one of those stone houses. I bought it to put outside but couldn't put it out. It sits on my coffee table. Did you get one? I think the people that make them are from
Newark.

Lona,

This looked like a great festival, all the mums, pumpkins and crafts! We don't have anything local like this in the fall, just the summer art fairs. Our town should really consider something like this.

Inspiration abounds with this post. Love so much about it. Pumpkins to the Holly Jolly Christmas snowman. You've inspired me to try and replicate him for my winter decor.... Thanks for inspiring us with great posts!

I loved the chrysanthemum display! The Festival looks like a great place to visit even though I find it hard to believe anyone could be thinking of Christmas already.

Debby: I never heard about the Country Living event until we had already decided to go to Thornville.Maybe next year. I did not get a house but maybe I will save up for one.Loved them.

Eileen: I am really surprised that there are no Fall Arts Festivals in your neighborhood. Maybe the Garden Clubs need to consider one.

Chris: He was so cute Chris. I hope you make one and show us when it is done.

I have eaten so much kettle corn this year I may explode! We've done over 10 shows this year and husband always buys a bag or two. I am now an expert at judging KETTLE KORN.
I have those stone houses, 3 of them.. I am pretty sure they are made by the same ladies I purchased mine from at the Shaker Woods show last year in Ohio. I love them!

With so many people at the festival how did you snap those photos? Thanks for your patience :-D Love what I see from the photos. Beautiful colours of blooms, plants and objects everywhere. I am sure you and your daughter enjoyed the trip very much. You have a great week!

Cher: It was fun and packed with people. It was like a stampede when the gates opened. LOL!

Jeri: LOL! If I need and expert on Kettle corn I know who to ask. LOL!

Adrienne: It was a great place to attend and it sure felt like Fall. LOL!Brrr.

Stephanie: As a matter of fact one woman stepped right in front of me and the camera and I got the weirdest closeup of her face. LOL!

Fall festivals are so much fun. Thanks for sharing this so I can feel as if I were there. All the mums are gorgeous!

Oh how much fun!! I LOVE these kind of things, especially in the cooler weather. With little kids and a husband who balks at attending these kind of things, I haven't been able to go to many arts and craft festivals the last few years. Hopefully when the kids are a little older!
I love those stone leaf birdbaths!

I love festivals and that looks like a fun time. Glad you and your daughter were able to attend so you could share with us. Have a good day Lona.

Looks like such a funday. I really would like to have one of those leaves for the garden.

That festival looks like a place my husband and I would get lost in (each with our respective wagons. We would never try to CARRY everything we wanted LOL.)

I hope I come across a similar event around here!

What a great fall festival. The display of mums and glass flowers were simply wonderful. I wish I was talented enough to make glass flowers.

hundredsofideas: Some of the booth crafter do not mind and others flat out tell me no pictures.I can understand though. Thanks for dropping by.

SageButterfly: At least you do not wilt in the heat at Fall Festivals. LOL!

Indie: Those leaf birdbaths and feeders are so nice. I am afraid the Racoons would upset them here and they would break.

Becca: It is fun to get out and see new ideas for the garden. I am a craft nut anyway. LOL!

Stella: Those leaves are so nice. I have a small one but nothing like those big birdbaths.

Cathy: Many had wagons that they were pulling filled with crafts and the children too. LOL!

Sweetbay: Those painted pumpkins were so nice and cute too.

Tina: I can never find the plates around here to make them. Someone always have them bought already by the time I check. LOL!
