A Gorgeous Week to be in the Garden in Store

Yesterday was such a beautiful day with sunshine and temperatures to 81 degrees. I spent most of the day outside playing around in the flowerbeds and doing some little odd jobs that needed doing. It seems like I always have painting to do every spring. Yesterday it was all about the garden decor. I painted the little statues, some flowerpots, and a watering can.
I still have the garden bench to paint yet so maybe that will get done this week.
I also got some stepping stones laid in front of the garden shed.

HoneyLocust_Blooms2 The Honey Locust trees beside of the garage in the woods are blooming and the fragrance is wonderful.

Honey_Locust_Blooms Bees were drawn by the fragrance coming off of the bloom.
I spotted some Hummingbirds at the feeders but it is hard to catch a picture of the little hyper gems.

Clematis_Silvermoon2_April30
The ‘Silvermoon’ Clematis is starting to bloom but this year the blooms are smaller. Probably because I decided to move it while it was forming the buds. It will be glad to finally have a permanent home in the Rose garden.

Raspberry_Blooms The Raspberry vines are even  blooming. Everything is three weeks early this year.

Where_Fairys_Paly The plants arrived for the Fairy Garden so I got the ‘Peanut’ Hosta and ‘Rebecca’ Viola planted in it.

Rhododendron_Red
The red Rhododendron is looking so pretty and the warm temperature have sped up the opening of the blooms on them.

Rose_Pink_Knockout2
And the first of the roses are in bloom now with the Rhododendrons which never happens here. The first  bloom would be from the trusty Pink Knockout roses.

Rose_MordenBlush_Buds
“Morden Blush”  will be the next rose and it is full of buds.
With highs in the eighties all week and some rain all of the roses will be opening some buds. I saw that the Aphids were gone from off of the roses but I will be keeping a close watch for them.

Columbine_Purple2
Another Purple Columbine is blooming from Margy’s seeds but this one is a little different with its white center.
All of the purple Columbines are from the same seed but some of the plants have all purple blooms.

Rose_Barlow_Columbine
The pink “Rose Barlow” Columbine is looking prettier  every day and is loaded with buds.

Weigela_Var_April30 The variegated Weigela bush blooms are opening now and looking lovely. Another Weigela bush “Wine & Roses’ will be blooming this week also.
I saw some buds on the irises in the woodland garden that will be blooming soon. I can hardly wait to see how they look since most of them were planted just last fall.

Rhododendron_Lavender
I also got a “Milkshake’ coneflower and a pink Turtlehead planted in the newly widened bed by the garden shed.
A few more plants and trees have yet to arrive so I hope they come this week so I can get them planted and finish up on the planting until it is time to get the annuals planted into the containers in a couple weeks. It will not be safe here to put them out until after May 15th.

With such a gorgeous week ahead I plan to get outdoors as much as I can in between some showers.
I hope all of you have a wonderful week and get those hands dirty.
Happy Gardening,
Lona

Hi Lona,

Beautiful photos and blooms!

So jealous of the beautiful weather you're having; it looks like we're having the terrible weather you experienced last year. It's been waiting pretty much for an enitre month now and I'm thoroughly fed up!

I love seeing what is going on in your gardens this time of year. Everything is poppin. Soon all the roses will be busting at the seams. Pretty columbines - Rose Barlow is especially pretty.

Lona, your garden is wonderful. We are very late here on Whidbey Island, in fact this time last year, I was harvesting lettuce, this year the plants are still very small.

I have my dump truck load of mulch just waitin' for me and my wheelbarrow.

Your pictures are just wonderful sweetie!!!

God bless and have a great day my friend!!! :o)

It's amazing that you've got Rhodies and Roses blooming simultaneously. I so love the variegated Weigela. Mine has buds but no flowers. They smell so yummy. Your fairy garden looks great. We sometimes go bike riding where a Honey Locust is blooming. The buzz from the bees is almost deafening. They sure love these flowers.

Beautiful photos!

Hello, Lona - I love all of your beautiful flowers! I can almost hear those little bees buzzing. And, I believe I will forever refer to my little hummers as "hyper gems".

Your garden is looking lovely, I can see why you want to be outside as much as you can. I am in the garden most of the time too, deadheading roses - it is amazing how fast time is flying.

Oh, my, is that a rhododendron?!! Just gorgeous! Those bring back great memories of my old Z7 garden. As does your stunning clematis! And I love your "fairy garden" -- might have to copy that idea.

'Pink Knock Out' is typically my first rose to bloom also!

Beautiful pictures! It has been a really good year for the columbine here in SW Ohio too.

Your blooms are lovely as always, but I am most enchanted by your Fairy Garden. I have been watching these pop up all over the net, and definitely need one this year. It will be a fun project to do with the kids. :)
