Combining Old and New to Create an Enchanting Garden

Today I am please to present a guest posting written by Hugo Morano.

Combining old and new to create an enchanting garden

If you’re looking at creating an enchanting garden, then your list of essentials probably includes lots of natural products and materials. Wooden furniture, willow fences, stone rockeries, and trellises and pergolas made of natural materials all go a long way to helping create a magical oasis. However, you can also utilise modern products to bring interesting dimensions and extra appeal to any garden.

There are many essentials needed for creating a captivating garden, but one of the most important aspects is to include winding paths and secretive nooks that visitors can discover. Even in small gardens, you can use plants and natural screens to obscure areas from view, drawing visitors to wonder what is behind, and pull people through your outside space as they seek to discover what’s beyond. There are two main options when you’re creating such garden features, with the first simply to use paths to wind their way through flowerbed before circling back towards the main garden. An alternative is to create a destination utilising benches, fountains and ornaments to give visitors something to discover at their journey’s end.

If you’re looking at creating destinations, then you’ll need to ensure that there is some form of reward for visitors. This could be in the form of a beautiful wooden bench to relax upon, a soft bubbling fountain, or a statue swathed amongst flowers. Furniture is a fantastic option for an enchanted garden, and wooden benches and swinging seats offer the chance for people to indulge and take a moment to enjoy life a little. A great alternative to natural rattan are the modern day synthetic materials that you can now buy. These pieces of furniture are hardy and weather resistant, offering you a natural looking product that will be easy to keep and maintain in top condition throughout the year, whatever the weather. Such items can be found at outdoor furniture specialists such as Bridgman.co.uk, who have been manufacturing furniture for more than 5 decades.

When searching for your garden features, it’s important to remember that you can also add modern materials alongside the traditional natural materials to create an interesting, creative and personalised outside space. Glass and metal will give your garden a contemporary twist without removing the enchanting aspects, allowing you to enjoy the best of both words. You can also utilise solar lights, metal water features and modern sculptures to add an extra dimension to your oasis.

If you’re planning on creating an enchanting garden, then there isn’t any reason why you can’t combine both natural and modern materials. Captivating your visitors is all about leading people through a garden and providing surprising features to enjoy. And, by utilising some modern materials in addition to natural products, you can add a contemporary twist to you garden space.

Lona, I love to use 'old and new' in my garden and I am always on the lookout for new things to add. I am going to be working on creating a water feature for the garden by the front door.

I love to use old and new. You always have the best posts. I like to create garden scapes using recycled or found items, with new, or new to me items to create a garden unique to me.

A most interesting article. We will have a new garden bench very soon. A friend of our made one for us from a Lowe's home design plan... Can't wait till it arrives from TN next week.
