Gone to Seed

Hello everyone. How is your week going?
Here winter is refusing to leave and has returned with snow flurries and cold winds again. After a few days of melting snow it was strange to see the lawn again even if it is very brown. The brown lawm may not last long if the storm that is suppose to come this weekend produces what that they are predicting.
I brought the potting soil in from the garden shed and let it get warm and then started sowing some seeds Monday.

Seed_Starting
I got the petunias and geraniums seeds sowed and will do more seeds later on. But it is a start and there is at least the hope of color for this Spring.

Seed_Starting2
It felt good to sow some seeds and play in the dirt for a while.
What I really want to be doing is cleaning the yard of sticks and the beds from oak leaves that have blown in. The Hellebores need the old leaves cut away because buds are starting to form.
My to do list of things to do this Spring just keeps getting longer and I am frankly anxious to see what comes up and what does not.
I have to redo the water pond and because of the wet conditions last year I did not get any mulching done in the beds. I have manure to add to the rose garden and other beds. And of course it just goes on and on. LOL!

Tulips_Growing2
Under the melting snow the Hyacinths, Daffodils and Tulips were waiting just for those few days of warm weather to get them to sprouting. Now some have brown tipped edges because of the cold. But although all these things are what we gardeners complain about we relish each new Spring and itch to get at it and back out into the garden where we also are regenerated after a long winter and we are at peace once again.

Everyone have a wonderful week and weekend ahead.
And
Happy Gardening,

Lona

The extreme weather makes us a better gardener I think. Now I have to water my plants so thoroughly and deeply. The dry spell here is like never ending. Your seed sowing is so organised. I love it! Cheers, Stephanie

Lona, You started sowing, well done!
I've sowed petunias and lobelias a week ago and now they have small leaves. What veggies will you sow? I'd like some varieties of tomatoes, but I think it's too early. Love your seedling pots!

Happy Gardening to you too. I need to plant some seeds too. Planted some 'soaked over night' moon vine seeds the other day and they are already up and growing. :-)

Love and hugs to you Lona ~ FlowerLady

I knew you'd be the first one with your hands in the dirt. I have some seeds to sow...maybe later this next week. I've got so much to do with Joe laid up...I may not get to do it at all. I'm a little worried about the new plantings from last year.
Have a nice weekend...Balisha

Patsy: Nothing tastes any better than home grown tomatoes. Yummy.

Stephanie: Yes all that watering can get to you and the plants. Last year I only watered the whole garden twice. It was a wet one here.

Nadezda: I will be starting Green and Red Sweet Peppers and tomatoes later on. Not much room here so they will grow in containers.

Lorriane: You reminded me of Moon vines. I have trouble with them sometimes but I try every year anyway. Hugs.

Balisha: I am worried about my garden this winter too. I hope Joe gets to feeling better. Hugs.

Lovely to see signs of Spring. I hope you can get out into the garden to start on that list of chores very soon.

It's so nice to start getting into planting mode! I've been winter sowing, but I think the time is right to finally start setting up my indoor grow lights and figure out where I'm going to be starting seeds. It gets us closer to spring!

Lona you are a wonder with your little seed pots! I have a dreadful time with growing seedlings and end up tossing all my seed into the garden to fend for itself. I need a Lona next door to advise me.

Is this the winter that refuses to leave, or what? I'm so sorry more bad weather is coming your way. I hope old man winter will get the memo soon and head for the hills. Or should I say, back to the north pole. I'm glad you're getting to putter indoors. Before you know it, you'll be planting your seedlings in the garden. Until then, hang in there. You're not alone.

Lona, I ordered my flower seeds on Monday night. And then we got another five inches of snow, lol. OH, well, it will melt eventually, but I don't know when we'll be able to put the greenhouse up as it's in the machine shed which is also buried in five feet of snow.

Oh, well. Just put the skis on and forgeddaboutit. Ha.

Always a pleasure to visit, and I know how the GADS thing goes, I'm always off on some garden attention deficit direction when Spring finally does hit.
