Cocktail’s Anyone ?

Since I have another amaryllis in bloom  I wanted to
flaunt it  for Fertilizer  Friday which is hosted by Tootsie
over at
Tootsie Time.

I have fallen in love with amaryllis this winter.
The tall stalks of large, bright flowers have brightened
the cold, gray days.

I had ordered a few amaryllis from the Amaryllis Bulb
Company and this was one of them. When it bloomed
and it was all white and looked like White Christmas I
knew it had been mislabeled.
After contacting the company they sent another
Cocktail amaryllis free of charge.

I love the dark red blooms with its white
veins. Such a cheery bloom.

The Peach Blossom Amaryllis is almost ready to
bloom now so it will take the place of this beauty
after its blooms are spent.

Yesterday was spent sowing some of the many seeds
that were show from a previous posting.
I think I am going to run out of room real fast with
all of the seeds I have accumulated.

Tulip bulbs were also potted up for future blooms.
The Fressias are growing very fast now and  I am
excited to see them bloom.

The miniature irises and two other amaryllis are
taking their sweet time at growing.

So Flaunt those Flowers and

Happy Gardening Everyone!

I have declared this the Year of the Amaryllis. Next fall, I'll buy some bulbs to have and some to share as they come into bloom. They are not only brilliant at Christmas, they're great for the dead of winter and for Valentine's day.

Lona your Amaryllis is beautiful. Mine is very late as I had a hard time finding them. But it's about 6 inches tall now and has a bud at last! So there's still hope.

I've been tempted to buy amaryllis but never have. Judging from yours, I think I will. Very pretty.

Lona, are you growing Fressia inside?

And they bloom? Oh wow, why did I never think of that?

Jodi: At this time of year I will grab onto anything that blooms. But these big blooms are gorgeous.

Darla: Thanks kiddo! Loved your Pansies.

Rosey: I think that is a great idea to have them for Valentines day. I don't have a sweetie so no amaryllis for valentines.

Becca; I am so ready for warm days too. Although we are in a thaw now with 44 degrees today.

KC: You can start them about anytime. Thanks so much for dropping by!

Noelle: Thanks hon!

Teresa: They are wonderful and who could knock such big beautiful blooms. Thanks for dropping by.

Nell; Yes, you just have to get some next winter.

RG: It won't be long now then.Once they get going they grow fast. Can't wait to see yours.

Deb: Thank you and so glad you dropped by. Don't be a stranger now.

Sonia: Spring sounds good about now for certain. Thanks for dropping by.

Balisha: Oh, I love the White Christmas. Cannot wait to see the pictures.I so enjoyed mine.

Maureen: Oh, girl you just have to try one at least. You will get hooked ;-)

Helen: I have never grown freesias before so I am trying to wait patiently to see them bloom.;-)

Debbie: I have a Canon Rebel with a 75-300 lens. I would love a macro lens for the camera.

Jen: Yeah, growing them inside. It is my first try with them but they are doing well so far.Just hoping they do not smell like nasty paper whites.LOL!

Hi Lona! I'm glad someone else is crazy about Amaryllis too. I can't seem to get enough of them either. This one is gorgeous. I haven't seen one I don't like tho! Very striking coloring with the white on red pattern and touch of green throat. I'm glad you got what you ordered too.
btw, I tried growing verbena bonariensis for the first time last year not realizing it wasn't hardy in my zone ~ I think it's zone 7-9?? I was so bummed to learn that. It will be an annual for me. I didn't get it started in time to see it bloom but the plants I have seen blooming don't appear to be floppy at all. Not sure if that helps??

I love the richness of the blooms - its a deeper red - which for me is more pleasing to the eye than pillarbox red. Glad that you finally got the right cocktail!

Your amaryllis is gorgeous. It has been several years since I have grown them. After seeing your pictures, I am going to make sure to grow them next Christmas. I was in Lowe's yesterday and they had them on clearance. I thought about buying some, but wasn't sure how they would do. I know you can plant them outside here.

Lona said...

Happy@Home: I would have probably gobbled them up. :-) Love clearances.

Leavesnbloom: I have a thing about true blues and reds also. I hate ordering a flower that is called blue and it is purple or a Red one and it is orange. I know they define them in color ranges but it it frustrating when buying them online. ;-)

Bangchik: Has Waldo arrived by plane yet? I know he needs some warmth.

Bren: Thanks so much. Loving your greenhouse cams ;-)

Kathleen: Thanks for answering my question on the verbena. It wouldn't work for me either so case closed. ;-)
