Not Your Apple Blossom

Apple Blossom Amaryllis is just a beauty.
The large blooms brighten up any gloomy winter day.

Who would not love big blooms of white with
touches of pink on the petals and veining.
The green throat of the bloom just pops.

Now take this Apple Blossom amaryllis.
It is pretty also with its bright red petals.

The deep red center adds to its beauty.

What is up with this? I am not doing too well with
getting the right bulbs for the amaryllis I think
I have purchased this winter. LOL!

Granted it is a pretty one but just not the glorious
pink Apple Blossom I wanted.
Does any of you amaryllis growers have any clues
as to what this one may really be named?

Happy Surprise Gardening Everyone!

Well, that was certainly a surprise, wasn't it? But a very beautiful one.

I don't know...there are so many red ones. I guess that you just have to enjoy it and let the company know about their mistake.

Hi Lona!

My mother had the apple blossom amaryllis and how she adored it. She also grew red ones in the winter. I've yet to try amaryllis, maybe a new adventure for next winter.

LOVE your rose header, simply exquisite.

You crack me up with your mislabeled colored Amaryllis. Keeps things exciting doesn't it?

Your mosaics are all just wonderful!

LOVE the bright happy red colors of your blog! The Apple Blossom is my favorite amaryllis. :)

I wanted to try Apple Blossom, but mine never bloomed just foliage. Your flower is very pretty, but definitely not Apple Blossom.

Might be Red Lion, Lona. That's a very common (but beautiful) one. Frustrating when you get one thing but purchased another.

How beautiful roses. I like red rose.
Amaryllis is so nice!

It is still very beautiful Lona! It must be hard for growers to keep the hundreds and hundreds they sort ... to be certain of the variety. I have had this happen a few times too. ;>)

That is a pretty red no idea the name though. I do have the pink one though that grows in the garden.

Apple Blossom is sweet looking compared with the red one. Red is bold and certainly brightens up the garden... or in your case, room ;-) Are you starting a collection? Have fun growing amaryllis!

Your amaryllis is probably Red Lion. It is possibly the most common one. An older variety that remains popular because it is beautiful and very dependable.

I've had pretty good luck over the years and gotten very few mislabeled plants. I did get a bearded iris which was mislabeled and it was frustrating because I didn't like the noname when it bloomed.

When I sat down at my computer on this gray & dreary morning, I was instantly cheered by your beautiful header picture. The red roses are just gorgeous.
How strange about your amaryllis. I have seen the Apple Blossom in bloom and it is very pretty. When I get done blog reading, I am going to make a note on my calendar to start some amaryllis bulbs in November. Your posts have reminded me of how truly beautiful they are. I never seem to remember to buy them when I should.

As I am terrible at labeling, I have had many surprises when I garden. Though this was not your fault, it still turned out nice!
Gorgeous!

Hi Lona, my Appleblossom is just getting ready to open. I bought it a little late but o'well I can use that color right now.
Just the same your red one is very pretty. Can't wait to see what color mine opens up now. LOL
I was just at your other blog looking at all of your gorgeous outdoor pictures. Your birds are always so great but those icy brrrrr pictures are wonderful.

I hope to see you at the Ohio Home and Graden Show!
Your amaryllis is doing wonderful. I am waiting on my Apple blossom to bloom but the Nagano Amaryllis is putting on quit the show!

Stop by sometime!

Hmmm, you are right. Something is not right here. Those are definitely NOT Apple Blossom. My Apple Blossom is about to bloom, wonder what surprise awaits me!

Oh no. I can't believe this happened twice! I am going to agree with Marnie and Jodi and say this looks like 'Red Lion' to me too. Better luck next year!
