Bob Evans Farm Festival 2010

Well this was a very busy weekend and I
was worn out Sunday.  Two Festivals in  a
row is getting harder as I am getting older,
but we had a great time. The weather was
wonderful with temps in the 80’s and some
gorgeous sunshine.
The trees are getting so pretty here in Ohio
now and they were the perfect background for
the Fall Festivals.

 BobEvans
Friday my daughter and I attended the 40th
year anniversary of the Bob Evans Festival
at Rio Grande, Ohio.
The crowds were fewer this year and so were
some of the displays. There were fewer craft
booths and I missed the county displays that
were usually made for the event. Last year
all of the counties in Ohio decorated hats
to be judged.

 CountyHats

Fall decorations were scattered amongst the
displays.

The quilt barn usually has quilting demonstrations
and beautiful quilts every year.

Bob_Evans_Festival

This year quilts which were displayed inside
were very pretty but to be honest I have saw
some much prettier ones shown on blogs from
our blogging buddies.

The bean soup cooking in large black kettles
did smell wonderful.

There were different groups singing throughout
the day to get your foot stomping. LOL!

Many who were new to the  festival took a tour
through Bob Evans family home.

Some of the crafting booths set up had some
lovely things that grabbed my attention.

MiniatureCabins

The little log cabins with fires glowing in the fireplaces
were cute.

LogDollHouse

There was even one large one made into a doll house.

SantaMaker

Penny Perorazio had some beautiful Santa’s
that she had made.
Santa

I loved this tall one which was about four feet tall
with his quilted coat….

Santa2
and if I were a Santa collector I would have
loved to bring this old fashioned Santa home.
He was a pretty Primitive Santa.

Crafts

Snowmen were everywhere in the booths along
with Halloween or Fall creations.

I did not take many pictures of the craft booths
since most I had saw before and some of the better
ones were absent this year. Maybe they were in
Waynesville for the Sauerkraut Festival since both
were held this weekend.

Pansies_Mums

The flower booth of course attracted me because
I had been wanting to get some Pansies for the
terrible looking window planters.

Pansy_Rose

I brought home some called Majestic II Rose…

Pansy_CrownWhite

and some Crown White ones.

That is about it for the Bob Evans Festival.
I will post about the Sauerkraut Festival later.
I did get a few pictures although it was hard
to do with the crowds of people. I never saw so
many craft booths or people at a Festival unless
it was at our local Pumpkin Show.
I hope you all had a beautiful weekend.
I am off to plant some Alliums I picked up so

Happy Gardening,

Lona

Dear Lona, I do not know how you found the energy to attend two of these festivals on one weekend. One always ends up totally exhausted after wanting to see everything and walking miles in the process.

I can see what you mean about the quilts which one sees on weblogs but the ones you show here are amazing. I am intrigued by the American fascination with quilts but am beginning to see their charm and their endless variety.

It's been a while since I have attended a festival of any kind...maybe this year this one wasn't the best that you have seen. I though, have enjoyed the tour.

Stunning reflections in the lake. I love the the large Santa with the quilted coat, he would look great in my front hall. Take care and happy gardening.

Lona, this looked like a great trip. I am assuming it is the Bob Evans sausage? I do buy this brand often, especially to make my holiday stuffing.

I want those bird houses.
Never see the tall ones with 2 openings around here.
The quilts are still works of art...envy creative patient people.
Fun post !

Hi, Lona;
That parting shot of autumn colors is gorgeous! And, the quilts are amazing but this cowgirl is now dreaming of a new hat! ;D

Fabulous photos as always Lona, your picture of the trees reflecting in the lake as they are just turning is beautiful. What a wonderful festival, I do wish we had something similar around our neck of the woods, and I can't wait to see your pictures of the Sauerkraut Festival! I also wanted to let you know that I have nominated you for a Versatile Blogger Award. Drop on over to my blog to accept the award if you are interested:

That looks like a lot of fun! I'd have so much fun looking at everything. I don't think there's any type of festival like that here. Looks like you have some beautiful fall colors starting to show there.

Such a nice festival! And so beneficial for those who are good in art and crafts. Love those log cabins... so cute. That dark chocolate pansy is a beauty also. I can imagine them mixing with white for a really cool effect.

Edith: I know I am getting too old for this running around. LOL! I think the quilting rage here is a cultural and historical thing. What was a necessity in keeping warm by left over materials to make blankets has become a collector item and a work of art.The ones done all by hand are the best collector items. So many are done by machine anymore. They are beautiful but easier.

Darla: I guess I only attend the ones who have crafter's in them. You have been so busy girl with the wedding preparations.

A Garden of Threads: I thought you would like the quilted Santa. I had to get a picture of it for all my quilting garden buddies.

Eileen: Yes, he was the Sausage king. LOL! Now the money made goes to schooling in Appalachia so it is a great festival to contribute to.

Kay: We had a fun time and it was a beautiful day to attend for once. We didn't have to worry about getting hung up in the mud. LOL!

Patsi: I know I have only made one quilt when I was a kid, a nine patch and I foolishly threw it away.

Kate: I missed the painted hat display this year. They were always painted so pretty with the counties competing. A cowgirl needs a painted hat. LOL!

Deb: Why thank you so much. I will be showing the Sauerkraut festival soon. It was so awesome!

Catherine: Maybe so much crafting is a regional thing. We have so many shops and festival where they show their wares. I enjoy it.

Stephanie: One of my disappointments in life is that I cannot paint. I have tried and tried too.

Lona those santas and snowmen look fabulous along with that stunning landscape in your last photograph. I used to do american patchwork and I really enjoyed going to the fabric shop and choosing all the various designs of fabrics imported from the States. They are beautiful and I can just imagine the hundreds of hours spent making those creations.

This looks like so much fun! I love the quilt display. I'm dipping my toe into the quilting waters (or perhaps my thimble-clad finger?) and really enjoyed looking at your pictures.

How great were these festivals!?!
I was really intrigued by that log cabin turned doll house! I would really enjoy having that in my small doll house collection!
