I admit I love all things blue so being a gardener true blue flowers are at the top of my list of must have’s in the garden.
When I spotted this blue beauty at the Central Ohio Home & Garden Show I know my eyes had to just sparkle.
Did you all hear me ewwing and ahhing?
I just kept staring at it and then thought that it just couldn’t be real. So of course being the kid that I am I just had to touch it to make certain.
To my surprise those big blue blooms were real. I am just a country gardener so I had never saw a blue Orchid before.
As they say I don’t get around much. LOL!
But just admit it isn’t she just gorgeous? !! I am in love.
She was set in just the right display amongst other tropical plants…..
which paved the way into an outdoor room or Cabana that just screamed warm summer or tropical breezes.
Just the sight to make one long for a vacation on the beach
and get away from the cold, damp breezes of Ohio.
The Blue Orchid will never be in my collection of plants to my disappointment. Orchids do not do well in my home and I would never want to kill anything so beautiful.
Update: This Blue Orchid may be a white one dyed blue.
This tropical flower was planted in amongst the Blue Orchids. Does anyone know what it is?
I know some of my warm climate garden buddies will have the answer.
Update: The flower is Aechmea 'Blue Tango’.

On another topic it seems some of our fellow bloggers are getting their posting stolen again.
I have added a script to my blog so that there can be “No Right Clicks” to make it harder for the pesky money grubbing thieves to steal the pictures and the content.
Everyone should try this deterrent just to make it harder for them.
They should at least be made to work for it if they are going to steal and try to make money off of your work.

My goodness I have never seen a Blue Orchid either, I must travel in the same cirlces as you, lol. I know the other plant is a Bromeliad just don't know which one.

The blue Orchids are beautiful, I've never seen blue ones either. I don't think any Orchids will ever live in my home either, I can barely handle an easy houseplant :)
Lona, the blue orchid is so gorgeous! Blue is my favorite color, but I have never tried an orchid and wouldn't want to start with one as lovely as that! The other tropical plant may be Aechmea 'Blue Tango.' So pretty!

Lovely colour.
We only ever had one Orchid plant in our house, but the cat hated it, every night he would tip it off the shelf, until eventually he killed it ( a proud day for him im sure)
I have never seen a blue orchid either! That is amazing -- I had no idea they existed. Guess I don't get out much, either!

Wow! That blue phalaenopsis orchid is stunning! I suspected it was faked somehow, since phals don't come in true blue, so I googled it. Indeed, these are created using a white orchid injected with a blue dye. Pretty cool-looking though! Your other gorgeous bloom is a bromeliad; I'd guess maybe an Aechmea, but not sure. There are thousands of brom species and cultivars out there.

That really is a true blue too. I love orchids but this one really does not look real, although it is. It will takes some getting used too I think.

Blue coloring, when used well, can make for a pretty bloom and this orchid looks lovely in your post. Glad you were able to identify the mystery plant.
I also looked back through a few of the posts that I have missed. I especially enjoyed the folklore post and all the old family (?) photos. I have always thought that when you depend on something as unpredictable as the weather and have to grow your own food to eat, that you quickly look for ways to turn luck in your favor.

Hi Lona, that blue color on Phals will just be there when the dye is continuously poured there, i am sorry but i feel like it is a bit too artificial. And it might not be good for the orchids in the long run. I saw it once also in Kimberly's post, also with Phalaenopsis. You should see the real blue orchids in my last post.

Looks like a good show. Great info on stopping the right click too ~ I'm going to have to see if typepad will let me install it. I sometimes have trouble with widgets for some reason.
