My daughter and I are off to Virginia for a week of vacation. I am leaving number one son to watch over the place and my Mom. I have yet to break the news to him that he may have to water a few (or more) containers if it does not rain. LOL!
We have a whole list of sights we want to see while there.
Of course I want to see some of Virginia’s gardens and conservatory’s.
I have always wanted to visit Monticello and the gardens of Thomas Jefferson. Charlottesville is holding their Historical festival while we are there and we want to roam around the old district of the town. Look at some old taverns nearby. It is probably a good thing I do not drink wine because it looks like Virginia has their fair share of wineries.
Sweet William
Another spot to visit on the list is the Lewis Ginter Conservatory and Botanical gardens in Richmond. Since I love our conservatory in Columbus, Ohio I wanted to check out another conservatory to see how they compare.
We want to ride out the beautiful Parkway and Shenandoah valley area, maybe see Luray caverns and the Natural Bridge.
Lollypop Lilies
We are also kind of curious about seeing the Walton’s Mountain museum. It could be fun to see some of the things that were used in making a show we all loved for years.
We are going to take our time and just stop when we spot something that looks like fun.
Of course you know my radar will be set to make a bee line to any flowers along the way.
I am apologizing now to all Virginians for wandering around your gardens and snapping pictures or disturbing your week. It will just be the crazy garden lady from the Buckeye state so please do not have me arrested. LOL!
Pelargonium ‘Caliente Fire’ Geranium
I will be traveling with a big camera around my neck and no doubt a smaller one tucked into my jeans pocket. LOL! And I reminded daughter Shelly not to forget her camera already once. It will likely be the first thing I ask her when we take off in the car to leave Saturday morning. “Got your camera?” Who cares if we forget the suitcases we have to get pictures.
Geum ‘Red Dragon’
I am certain that the time will fly by and we will not get to everything on our list of “to visit”. '
We are hoping the weather will be nice to us and not rain the whole week we are there.
Jan where did you say your garden was? LOL!
Erysimum ‘Jenny Brook’ Wallflower
Everyone take care and have a safe and restful holiday weekend ….
Until Later,
Lona

Enjoy your visit to my adopted home state! Monticello is a favorite of mine. I'm embarrassed to say I've not made the trip to Lewis Ginter ... yet.
Sounds like fun. Have a great trip!!
I might make it to Hocking Hills on Memorial Day:)
Have a great time! Love your photos!
You've got so many gorgeous blooms in your garden right now. I'm sure your son will do a terrific job of looking after everything while you're away. Enjoy your break. Can't wait to see the photos.
Sounds like a gardener's dream trip. Hope you and your daughter have fun.
Be safe.

Oh, have a wonderful time Lona!! Lewis Ginter is a great garden to tour, as is Monticello. Enjoy!
Sounds like you two have some wonderful plans. Hope you have a great time.
Cher Sunray Gardens
Have a wonderful time Lona, but I don't know how on earth you leave your garden during peak season! I've seen the Luray Caverns, and enjoyed them very much. But of course you need to see gardens wherever you go. Isn't that what everyone does on vacation?
That sounds like a wonderful plan! Enjoy the Parkway and whatever gardens you see! Don't forget to take pictures! LOL
Always good to get away!
I would like to see everything you mention, and must tell you I like your Lollypop lilies. I grow quite a few Oriental lilies and Tom Pouce Lily is in my photo on this comment.
Enjoy your visit to my 'backyard.' Know that the extreme hot humid weather you experience this weekend is not normal. Sometimes we really do have spring. I am looking forward to your next post with lots of pictures of what you learned and saw.
Happy travels to you! You will love Monticello!
I wish you a fantastic time on your trip, Lona! Can't wait to see all the beautiful sights when you get back.

I hope you thoroughly enjoy Monticello -- I've seen it in February and in the fall, and have always wanted to see it in spring. I will be eagerly watching for a post and plenty of pictures! Have a terrific trip!
How fun for you Lona! I grew up in Harrisonburg so you're talking about many of my old stomping grounds. Hope you have a great trip & your garden will look amazing when you get back. It seems like everything grows when you're gone a few days.
Lona girl good for you !!
Utilizing number one sons are what they are here for girl!
Lovely pictures and I hope you had a GREAT time .. that would be too funny to see Jan's face if you had arrived unannounced in her garden ? LOL
