Hot and dry weather has set in here in the hills and that means dragging around the water hoses. Quite a difference from last year when we only had to water the gardens a few times. From the looks of it this may be one dry summer ahead.
The lily bed in the woodland garden is starting to bloom now and it is becoming a riot of orange, pinks, whites and yellows from the of Asiatic lilies planted in this section.
In the woodland bed it is always a challenge each year to keep the deer from eating the lilies. I use garlic clips hanging along a string line around the bed and deer spray repellants. They still nip off a few even with these deterrents.
This pink double is ‘Elodie’ and Asiatic lily that I always look forward to seeing each year. The plants are finally starting to spread out in their third year and the bed looks fuller.
I have to admit that I love lilies so I have a few stuck around in all of my flower beds. Some bloom early and a few for later blooms.
Hemerocallis ‘Little Business’ daylily.
‘Rosey Returns’ daylily was planted last Fall so it is new this summer.
‘Snow Princess’ a white Stargazer.
‘Wild Horses’ daylily has its first blooms also this summer.
Also in the woodland bed I have scattered many wild flower seeds. Many daisies and coneflowers are coming up there.
This native Lanced leaved Coreopsis is also one of the plants that has grown from the scattered seeds. It is a lovely flower and may get moved to one of the other flowerbeds this fall.
Also in bloom now in the Hippie or Orange Flower Bed ….
Achillea ‘Apricot Delight’ yarrow
‘Summer Sky’ Echinacea is just a touch lighter in color than the ‘Sunset’ Echinacea.
Eremurus ‘Sheford Yellow’ Foxtail lily. These were suppose to be a mix of pinks and yellows but I got all yellow it seems. They are suppose to fix this and send another mix with pink ones guaranteed among them. Foxtail lilies bloom from the bottom upwards.
Hydrangea ‘Blueberry Parfait’.
‘Bella Roma’ and yes the Japanese beetles have arrived to munch on everything.
Veronica ‘Lilac Fantasy’ grown from seeds that Catherine of “A Garden in Progress” sent to me. Thanks Catherine I love them!
and the Stachy’s Lambs Ear’s are starting to bloom.
I love its fuzzy silver foliage.
So there is a lot going on in the flowerbeds right now.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend and…
Happy Gardening,
Lona

So many lovely Lilies. 'Elodie' is beautiful. 'Rosey Returns' is a gorgeous new addition and 'Wild Horses' is a stunner as well. I just love the 'Sunset' Echinacea. It's a great colour.
As always, inspiring and beautiful.
I need some rose advice. My roses have black spot and have lost a lot of leaves. Is there something I can do besides cutting them back severly and crossing my fingers?

I hope you get some rain. We had a dry spell back in April, but since then we have had consistent rain about once or twice a week. I don't know what summer will bring. Your garden looks lovely. I am particularly drawn to that Hot Papaya echinacea...beautiful!
You have such beautiful flowers in your garden.
I enjoy looking at your flowers and gardens so much!!
Have a great weekend.

Hi Lona,
You have a nice assortment of blooms. I love your daylilies and other lilies. I have daylilies in almost all of my beds, too.
I need to try to grow more plants from seeds. I have been wanting to get that native/wild coreopsis, and have not found any in pots.
It's always a delight to go through your lovely pictures. You have so many beautiful flowers.

Your Liliy bed is beautiful, my black berry liliy bloomed this week hope yours will this year.
Interesting to see the different coloured echinaceas, I had no idea of the variety.
I love lilies - I also have to keep spraying them with Deer Off to fend off the hungry beasts. This year the lily blooms are actually lasting a decent amount of time here. Usually the NC heat kills them off pretty quickly. I hope this summer won't be as dry as you think it might be!
I love that sunset echinacea. What pretty colors!
What a great collection of lilies! Love all the different colors.
Love 'Wild Horses'. I am amazed that you can keep any of those beauties with deer near by!
Lona,
Your lilies are beautiful so many in bloom. We are very hot here also with some rain last night. You have such a great variety of coneflowers.
