Summer Has Arrived and the Heat is On

The heat is on for the beginning of summer. I am relieved because I was getting tired of the up and down weather we were having of warm two days and cool four. My garden was not liking it either.

Astilbe_Pink

My pink Astilbe’s are blooming now as the white ones are coming to an end.

Astilbe_White
I love seeing the Blue Hill salvia against the white Astilbe blooms.

 Clustered_Campanula
The purple Clustered Campanula is lovely this summer but there are fewer plants.

Larkspur
A few blue Larkspur have returned but they are looking sad this year for some unknown reason.
I am seeing that quite of few of my flowers plants are about half the size they were last year. Is anyone else seeing this this year in your gardens up north?
Maybe it is just time to mix some manure into the beds.

Sweet_William_Pink2
Sweet William’s are appearing in the woodland bed where I had thrown some mixed seed last spring.

Sweet_William_Red

This red one is my favorite and I think it will be moving into one of my other flowerbeds.

Veronica_Wooly
Wooly Speedwell Veronica

Petunia_Blackberry2

Blackberry petunias that were started from seed this spring. They are almost black in color until the sunlight hits them.

Cineraria_Obsession

This is the first time that I have grown Cineraria from seed. I have a couple of pots full of them and the jury is still out as to if I am going to like them. I think they may wane in this heat but be back blooming again when it starts to get cooler towards fall.

Tradescantia_Widows_Tears_White
In the shady areas of some of the flowerbeds tradescantia or Spiderwort is blooming.

Although our winter was mild compared to other years I am afraid to start counting up the plants that were lost or did not return this year. I may have to post a posting of remembrance.

Everyone have a wonderful week and enjoy this start of summer.
Anyone watching the Super Moon tonight?

Happy Gardening,

Lona

Hot here too and oddly today, no wind to speak of.

Love sweet william. Don't know why I never get any for my garden. Need it on my list!

You have such lovely blooms in spite of your up and down weather.

I love the three colors of spiderwort that you have. Mine is more bluish/purple. I love it. :-)

Lots of heat here too. I just hope we get rain. It's been so nice not to water like the last two summers.
I had two clematis not come back this year. The older one didn't look good last year but the newer one started growing and just died all of a sudden. My new dogwood did that too. It got leaves this spring and in a few days it just died! Very upsetting!

My little woods is full of Sweet William right now. I was going to just let the woods go this year, but when I saw those pretty colors..it set me right to work.
Enjoy your day today...pictures are lovely as always.

Lona, finally the heat is in your garden. We have hot weather as well. The plants need heat after long cool winter. I love your clematis, the color is unusual, very light! And tradescantia is lovely, especially the pink and white ones.
have a nice week!

My garden looks better than ever this year, so I'm not sure why your plants are struggling. Maybe it's still from last year's drought. I can't believe you do so well growing petunias from seed! I just don't do well with flowers from seed. But I think I'm actually going to get some Queen Red Lime zinnias from see this year, whoo hoo!

They are all beautiful Lona, but the only species which thrive here is petunia. If only i can seen that black one here, very beautiful. We only see the common ones like whites and purple sold in the grocery store.

Sorry to hear you've had some plant losses Lona. I have too but at least I know the reason ~ all the frigid temperatures in late April when they were just coming out. It was a killer. It's perplexing when you don't have an obvious answer. What you've shown looks good tho! It's gotten hot here too, we didn't get much spring weather ~ sort of skipped it and went from winter to summer.
p.s. I don't know if I replied to your hint about the 'Dalmation Peach' foxglove seeds but I'm definitely going to try and save you some! Also the red delphinium you liked last summer is about to bloom. I'm going to keep my eye out to see if I can find any seeds from it too. Remember it didn't seem to produce any???
Have a good weekend.
